I'm really intrigued by live fire grilling, but the decent Santa Maria grills are very expensive.

I just saw an ad (from Bed Bath & Beyond???) for the rotisserie grill on the left and thought, "That's practically a Santa Maria grill. I'll bet this company sells a decent one for…"

<sigh>

I don’t think you would be happy with that Temu grill….

For under $4500 you can build your own.

    Enjoy life bro!

One is American made powder-coated steal, the other is… temu.

    A) they’re not in the same demand, so they are more expensive.

    B) they have moving parts that will need to be made of rust-preventive metals that can last

    C) Santa Maria grills need to be able to hang heavy meats, so much of the bar and the grate need to be able to not only move, but have high weight limits which is automatically additional cost (just look at cheap replacement Weber grates—you can get them for 30-40 bucks. Try to get 304 stainless heavy gauge and the price can double/triple)

    D) because demand is low, often the market differentiates by quality and authenticity. The average buyer is more willing to spend more.

    It’s just economics.

Like buying a Hisense TV and expecting Samsung quality. You get what you pay for like everything else

Check out Costco. They offer Santa maria grill made in that area. I forgot the name of the company who makes them, but they offer different sizes and custom options.

weber has an attachment for the grills. I think it was $139.99 and that makes it interesting for me to look into further

For what it’s worth, that Santa Maria is on sale for $1499 now (home depot/backyard discovery). Almost pulled the trigger, but am likely going local and spending more! Yay!

So in response to what basically everyone else is saying (“you get what you pay for”, “american made steel”, “corrosion free”…) my father mostly grills with those and they are between 100 and 500 € in Italy based on size, and yes they are good quality, steel made, with moving parts and a rotary motor. I guess that whenever you live this is now considered esclusive grilling and that’s why the prices are inflated, but there is nothing special about those grills.

Hand made out of thick steel. Takes quite a bit of time to make them and the material isn’t cheap.

That’s not even really authentic SM grill. Looks janky. N you can get them at Costco here for $399. Very well built, good material, good size.grill.

I live 15 minutes away from Santa Maria.

The same reason why divorce is is expensive. They’re worth it.

I know. I found mine at Academy Sports and Outdoors. $500. Cheapest I could find anywhere. Old Country BBQ Pits is the make. Trust me you’ll love the thing!

Ha! Stumbled upon this as I took a break from assembling my Backyard Discovery 24″Santa Maria. Didn’t get very far though; I unboxed everything and found out that none of the packaged legs align on the rear right mounting holes. It appears they sold me a duplicate rear left leg instead.

Now I have 375lbs worth of material on a 100f patio waiting for a customer support callback on Monday, all on Fourth of July Weekend. Fml

I’ve been going through the same confusion. I’m actively searching and can’t find anything good for less than 1500. Doesn’t make much sense to me either.

Depending where you live, people weld their own with cool custom designs then sell them for much cheaper
