The verdict from my not so critical pallet:

The place was crawling with people out of town and maybe the locals were there too but the line was like a 20 to 30 min wait

The smell excellent, it wasn’t camp fire but it was of fresh baked pies .

The shear volume of sales was incredible, the pace at which the workers were going was intense.

U had the pie makers and then u have tie oven operators and finally the pie cutter station that checks each bottom before cutting. I saw them flipping just one area to make sure the char was there before cutting .

The interesting thing is they have 2 buildings. So if u are a done in. U can be place in building A or B.

I have tried lots of pizza. But I am not critical and the flavor and crunch and chew was in the top 5 places I have ever been.

The thick cut pepperoni makes it for me!

A small pie was about $15 dollars and should feed 2.

Just impressed and if ever in New Haven I would recommend as it is history and touristy but in the end top tier pizza experience.

That pizza is not worthy of the namesake. 👎

I’ve had plenty of Pepe’s pizzas and if they served me that I’d send it back. Shame.

Honestly, it doesn’t look that good. I’d much rather NY style. We have better pizza in Calgary with shorter lines.

That pie looks really bad. And I’m generally a fan of New Haven apizza.

Is this supposed to be Neapolitan? It does not look it.

New Haven style isn’t visually appealing and Pepe’s photos always get roasted here.

And it just shows how little people on a pizza sub know about pizza

I travel that cooridor alot work. Recommend either BAR or Modern for those in New Haven and brewport if you’re in bridgeport.

Thank you for sharing this 😋

  9. Sally’s and Zupp’s ftw. Modern is also excellent.

  10. Ive has multiple times, even the one down in florida. It’s just not good, I wonder if it ever was.

I went Thursday. First time and was not expecting amazing but was surprised it was so lousy. Mine looked identical to OP. Thick bland tasting crust. Liked the sauce but cheese tasted typical food service cheese. The only redeeming quality was the pepperoni.

For something with such a namesake I was quite annoyed. Even my 11 year old said he would never go back. The service was not great either servers were overwhelmed either no help it seemed with other staff standing around.

Please go to Modern. It is way better than Franks. Franks is for tourists. Modern (or even Sally’s) is much better.

Pepe has gone down hill a bit. I’m from CT and grew up with frank pepe but lived in Boston for the last 11 years and the Boston ones were great when they first opened but last time I went to the Watertown one it was kinda shit

I went to modern and Pepes and I thought Pepes was better.
