Recently started a low calorie (not 1200), healthy diet and it’s going well. Decided to have a big brunch today as a treat (not a cheat day, still going to stick to my calorie goal). Was shocked when I put it into MyFitnessPal that it’s almost exactly 1200. Hope I don’t get hungry anytime soon.

2 eggs, one (?) avocado, two large slices bread, 2 sausages…doesn’t add up to 1200 to me. Did you use packaging information or a scale, or how did you measure?
A good visual for how easy it is to overeat (eat more than your maintenance calories) without realizing it. To most this is a healthy breakfast. Healthy fat in the avocado, protein in the sausage and eggs. But multiply that by three “healthy” meals a day and you’re quickly over 3,000 calories. This is why strict tracking is necessary for most of us unfortunately 😭
Not a chance that’s 1200kcal unless that plate is 50cm diameter and those are ostrich eggs.
Edit: I stand corrected. Guess I’m too used to buying food that is not extremely calorie-dense.

the bread must be what brioche? the avocado mixed with mayo?

Dang. No wonder I have trouble losing my last ten pounds all my damn life if one meal is easily my whole days worth.
Being short and tiny really sucks if you are a foodie 😭
OP would it be okay if I reposted this to the Petite Fitness sub? I see a lot of posts where people are confused why they’re eating healthy but not losing weight and dont realize how easy it still is to eat healthy but be over calories and i think your post really puts it into perspective
That looks delicious and worth every calorie. I bet you will stay sated until dinner.
Wow that honestly did not look like 1200 to me. Then when I read about the sausages and the oil it made more sense. I don’t think I would be able to eat all of that in one sitting but just looking at the plate fooled me big time.
When I see something like this, I always think how I could make that but lower in calories. You could easily shave 300-500 calories off by changing out the bread and sausage to lower calorie items. Also, I don’t see why you have to mix the avocado with anything, mashed avocado is just fine.
I remember when I first started trying to lose weight. The first thing I did was simply tracking what I ate for a couple of weeks. I wanted to better understand what I was doing so I could try to improve. I remember being absolutely shocked by how many calories were in some foods, and how few calories were in others. It was quite an education!
It’s a healthy meal just a bad combo for the 1200 calories lifestyle since all these items are high calorie, despite it being healthy calories.
The good news is that if you do it with just 1 slice of bread/avocado/egg and 1 sausage link it’s still delicious but only 600.
P.S. Thanks for the recipe because this looks amazing! I never knew mashing avocado with oil was how they get it so smooth at restaurants.
I’ve basically been doing this for breakfast but with sweet potato “toast” and chicken sausage, and it’s become one of my new favorite breakfasts
For the quantity of good healthy fats and protein you have there, you may be able to go a whole day on that one meal!
I also love avocado toast even if it makes me chuckle thinking that boomers say this is what we all spend our money on 😂
This is how I was obese and confused, telling people “I eat healthy, I don’t eat that much, you see what I eat”.
I don’t eat much in one sitting in general I kind of spread out my meals for instance I would probably just have one piece of toast with the toppings and one sausage. I guess a good rule of thumb is to just halve whatever you would usually eat to meet the calorie goal.
I agree. I just decided to make some French toast, which requires butter to taste good, and I’m realizing I might as well just have that giant doughnut for lunch next time I feel like it with its mystery calories lol. At least I’m getting protein.
On the plus side: not to be Captain Obvious, but one of each sausage/avocado toast would equal 600 and that would still be pretty satisfying.
Likely the bread and sausage that has the surprisingly high calorie count. They make bread that is lower calorie and has more protein. How many grams protein is this? Just curious. Looks delicious!
This is a wake up call for me to start tracking again. I’ve been so busy and stressed that I haven’t, but even a week or so would make me realise how I’m ’weirdly gaining weight’. I’m just in denial
Probably kept you full all day
I definitely find myself gravitating toward really calorically dense foods and meals. This is a good reminder to track 😭
