I splurged a bit on dining out this past week in NYC cause someone was in town and wanted to share my experiences. Spoiler, everything was delicious and NYC still has one of the best food scenes in the world!
Joo ok – 10/10 It might be my new favorite Korean fine dining experiences in NYC. A perfect balance of pungent & subtle flavors through a tasting menu that doesn’t shy one bit from being Korean. Exceptional meal throughout without a single miss.
Brooklyn Chinatown Nighttime Skewer Stalls – 10/10 When night comes, food carts arrive on 61st ST between 7th & 8th Ave in Brooklyn. Tables of skewers line the street. You tell the cart what you want and they’ll grill them up for you. I spent about $30 for 2 drinks and a mix of skewers ranging from Octopus to bacon wrapped enoki. Do they have food licenses? I’m not sure, but it was delicious and cheap. Forget Halal carts, this is where you go for street meat.
Bangkok Supper Club – 10/10 My favorite restaurant in NYC for two years running. A standout amongst the many Thai standouts in NYC. Their trump card is their Pandan Coconut Chiffon Cake/Pudding which has been my favorite dessert in NYC for equally as long. I’d be willing to dine here for just that alone.
Kabawa – 7/10 Located in Momofuku Ko’s old space is the only restaurant I felt a little lukewarm about this week. While well-seasoned, their Chuleta Can Can for 2 was simply way too fatty. I’d wager the fat to meat ration was somewhere between 60 to 70%. I love fat but it was just too much. Otherwise, an excellent meal, just avoid the Chuleta.
Confidant – 10/10 A new restaurant with a focus on aged meats that just opened in Industry City. Their
Crown of duck is my new favorite duck dish in NYC. We made the mistake of order two bread courses and still we found room to finish the duck. Excellent dessert too.
