It’s the middle of winter in Adelaide, I’m working from home, and I’ve got a long weekend ahead… so obviously, I made soup. But not just any soup. I made a pot of Greek Lemon Chicken Soup (or avgolemono if you’re feeling fancy) that tricked my brain into thinking it was the first day of spring. The citrusy aroma wrapped around my little home like a hug, and Lulu, perched like a kitchen overlord on top of the fridge, supervised every step. I had one lonely extra-large chicken breast giving me attitude in the freezer and a couple of lemons meant for a forgotten recipe, so it felt like fate. 🍲🍋

Now, I’m not always this put together in the kitchen. Last weekend? Total disaster. I made some puff pastry pizza scrolls, decided to get experimental, and ended up with a batch that looked like they’d been stepped on. And don’t even ask about the no-bake chocolate fruit and nut slice. I was still sulking over the scrolls and tried to redeem myself with chocolate. Big mistake. Big. Huge. It was chaos. Into the bin it went, along with my confidence. But this soup? This soup has *never* failed me. It’s warm, velvety, lemony, and easy on my gluten-sensitive tum. Honestly, it’s like edible self-care.

Kitchen fails are such a normal part of life, and yet, we all pretend we have it together. Let’s be real: for every perfect photo I post, there are five other recipes that didn’t make the cut. Like the time my creamy Cajun pasta went from dreamy to radioactive sludge in the blink of an eye. Or when I somehow melted gnocchi into actual soup. Still not sure how that happened!! And don’t get me started on the muffins that never rose. Cooking is a beautiful mess. And if you’re in it for perfection, you’re probably in the wrong kitchen. 💁‍♀️

Greek Lemon Chicken Soup is my failsafe. It’s what I make when I need a win. When I want something warm and nourishing but don’t want to deal with any kitchen theatrics. And after getting accidentally glutened the other week, this was exactly what I needed to reset my poor, grumpy body. It’s also surprisingly easy to make for something that tastes so comforting and luxe. The lemon gives it that lift that makes your palate sit up and go “hey now,” while the egg gives it a silky texture that’s just dreamy.

When I haven’t been pottering about in the kitchen, I’ve been indulging in some very Taurus-core activities: shopping. I recently scored a vintage mink coat at Goodwill for $200. I mean. Come on. It’s immaculate and I swear I almost levitated out of the store. Also nabbed a Michael Kors handbag for $250, down from $700!!! My sister is still giving me side eye about that one. But hey, life is short and beautiful things are meant to be collected. Even if I do spend 90% of my life in fluffy pyjamas and no bra, I like knowing I *could* dress like a Parisian heiress at brunch, if required. 😎🌂

This weekend is all about comfort. Cooking, naps, and the occasional glance at my to-do list before quickly ignoring it again. I’m planning to retest a few older recipes that need new photos, and finally shoot some brunch content I’ve been putting off for weeks. The weather’s still crisp enough for soup, but I’m also craving buttery eggs and crispy potatoes. Lulu, as always, will be my shadow, making sure I’m doing everything to his specifications. And on Saturday, bestie and I have brunch plans – he vetoed my first suggestion so now he’s responsible for picking the spot. If it has a fireplace and decent wine, I’ll call it a win.

Thanks for being here, for watching, for reading, for letting me ramble about soup and scroll fails and mink coats. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever made avgolemono before or if your kitchen disasters could rival mine. And remember, it’s not about perfection. It’s about showing up, stirring the pot (literally), and making something that brings you joy. Or at the very least, doesn’t end up in the bin. 😅🍼
