LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Music lovers can fight hunger while enjoying free entertainment Thursday, July 10, as Moon Tunes partners with Rotary Lights for a food drive at Riverside Park featuring the Smokin’ Bandits and Matt Mahlum Band.
The collaborative effort brings together Moon Tunes, Rotary Lights, Rotary District 6250 and area Rotary Clubs to address growing food insecurity in the Coulee Region. The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and benefits the Hunger Task Force.
“Without Rotary lights, we wouldn’t have a rotary lights kiddie train, so it kind of brings it full circle for the kids to see. We support people, we need to support our community. We’re all a community, we need to work together,” said Scott Lundeen, Rotary Club Steering Committee member.
For years, Rotary Lights has offered free train rides to children at Moon Tunes events. The organization now expands its mission to feed hungry families through this charitable initiative.
Attendees can bring non-perishable food items or make financial donations, which local Rotary Clubs will match. The most-needed items include beans, peanut butter, canned fruits in juice, canned meats, pasta and pasta sauce, brown rice, and whole grain breakfast items such as cereal, oatmeal and pancake mix.
Financial donations can be made at the park during the event or online through the Rotary Lights Inc. website. The collaborative effort demonstrates how entertainment venues and service organizations can work together to address pressing community needs.
