Hey! I did my first ever cookies, this hobby is not for the impatient!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I kind of feel disheartened about the outcome but I know it takes years to perfect a hobby.

I tried to marble a couple but it just made it look like I’ve not blended the icing properly (I won’t be trying that again🤣)

The top left star was the first one I did… if you can’t tell🙈

Hi! Don’t be discouraged, we all start somewhere! I’m by no means an expert and just make cookies for fun, but what really helped me was watching YouTube videos! There are great ones about icing consistency for flooding/outlining and general techniques.

Bonus if you can find a cookie class in your area to learn from! I took one around the holidays last year and just to have someone in person to answer questions was extremely helpful. My local cake supply store offers classes, if you’re able to you should look into one!
There’s also some great Facebook groups you can join for cookie decorating!

Good luck on your cookie journey. It can be frustrating but once you find your groove it’s fun and the creativity is endless!

Decorating cookies is very humbling. Consistency is the hardest part. Definitely recommend youtube videos. No advice really…just keep practicing

You did a good job. I have been decorating cookies for around 5 years. I still have issues with icing consistency from time to time.
I see that your outline is rather bumpy. Watching beginner YouTube videos will be helpful. Look for ‘drag and drop’ method. It helps to see it done.

You want your lining/detail icing to be more the consistency of toothpaste, and when you’re mixing when you pull up your paddle you should a peak that just slightly flops over. When I use my mixer I’m only mixing it at medium speed for up to 3 mins **if you wanted to do flowers you’d want the peaks to stay straight up. For flood icing, closer to a shampoo consistency. Another method is counting – you run a spatula/knife or spoon through the middle of your bowl and it will come back together in about 10-15 seconds.

The more you do it, you’ll get the feel for it 🙂
    have fun!

I don’t have much advice because I’m a beginner too, but you did a great job, just keep practicing! I think patience is truly the key to getting better with this. YouTube videos have helped me a lot!
