This is a wine from when Caymus made both its reputation and unquestionably some of the best Napa Valley Cabernet
The bottle has had two owners since leaving the winery. I got it from a friend. It has lain in my cellar for several decades
The bottle/cork were in perfect condition
The wine sang from opening until consumed an hour later
It gave pleasure and at the same time was incredibly interesting
While not ready to fall apart I am certain it will not get any better
Color was beautiful ruby
Nose: dark cherry herbs cedar eucalyptus
Tasting: dark cherry tobacco cedar pepper hint of chocolate sweet mouth coating few tannins super long sweet pepper dark fruit finish

It’s very sad to compare thar bottle with recent vintages. Caymus used to be excellent.
That’s a great looking bottle
Look at that abv. Would love to have the opportunity to try some 70s-80s Napa bottles.
Is it reasonable to call Caymus _The Simpsons_ of Wine? “The older seasons were so much better….”
