Ingredients
Sesame seeds (Black) : 1 cup
Flax seeds : ½ cup
Vaate Huli / Monkey Jack : 5-6 pieces or Tamarind – A small piece (or 1/2 tsp tamarind powder)
Dry red chilies : 4-5 (adjust to spice preference)
Curry leaves – A handful (optional)
Salt – To taste
Oil – 1 tsp (for roasting)
Preparation:
Dry roast the seeds:
Heat a pan on low-medium heat.
Dry roast sesame seeds until they pop. Set aside.
In the same pan, dry roast Flax seeds and Vaate Huli / Monkey Jack (Or Tamarind – A small piece (or 1/2 tsp tamarind powder) separately, until they release a nutty aroma. Set aside.
Roast the spices:
Add 1 tsp oil to the pan. Roast the dry red chilies and curry leaves (if using) until aromatic.
Cool and grind:
Allow all the roasted ingredients to cool.
In a blender grind the sesame seeds, flax seeds, roasted spices, Vaate Huli / Monkey Jack (Or Tamarind – A small piece (or 1/2 tsp tamarind powder) and salt to a slightly coarse powder.
