Hi all I just bought a new stainless steel grate for my master touch to replace the original plated grate that came with it.
When the new grate arrived (it wasn’t boxed just in bubble wrap which spiked my suspicions) I noted that it was very shiny and looked identical to the plated version of yeh grate that came with my master touch. I thought the stainless steel version should be duller / not shiny?
Also I tested it and it is magentic and just as magentic as the original version that came with my MT kettle.
You can see that it does have the off la looking Weber card attracted to yeh grate but anyone could zip tie that on coolant they…
I hope I’m wrong and it is the SS version but I want to confirm one way or another so if needed I can go back to the retailer to ask for a replacement or refund if needed
Thanks in advance all.

I ordered the Weber grate and one made by Qulimetal available on Amazon. The Qulimetal one was much heavier, thicker gauge, and less magnetic than the weber brand one, and less shiny (looks more like actual stainless steel) so I returned the Weber version.
It’s not perfect, but I have been very happy with the Qulimetal grate (I’m not associated with the company, just happy with their grate).
Def looks plated to me. The all-stainless is a matte finish. (Source: I ordered the all-stainless part # 65057 and had to call in to get it)
That looks plated to me, so shiny.
Definitely looks like chrome.

You mean I paid $65 at ACE for the crappy version? Lame. Still makes nice vortex wings tho
Lots of stainless steel is magnetic, so just because it is magnetic doesn’t mean not stainless. The welds don’t look chromed, so that’s promising. I think it’s just unsettling because we’re so used to stainless being a brushed finish, that a mirror polish looks wrong. But for a grill grate, the polished surface is easier to keep clean. Unless it’s counterfeit, I’d say it really is stainless.
Edit: I changed my mind. Unless you ordered it straight from Weber it’s almost certainly counterfeit. I can’t even find the stainless grate on Webers site anymore.
Was a Machinist/Tool and Die never saw stainless that shiny unless it was polished. That is plated.
Looks plated. Hit it with a file and see
I think yeh confusion is maybe around the actual part number then? Is 8834 the plated stainless version that is actually shipped with the master touch as standard? I.e not full stainless steel? The seller advertised it as stainless steel not plated steel so I am really confused.
Can anyone confirm which grill (part number) it is that comes with master touch 57cm grill as standard from Weber please.
What is the grade of stainless Weber use? 304? I’ve bought replacement grates for both my kettle and spirit grills off Amazon and got 304 stainless. Both sets were non magnetic and not as shiny as that appears to be.
