Can us Canadians get a moment of silence for our beef prices.

  1. Let it rot on the shelves, prices will come down.

  2. JustinMcSlappy

Sadly it’s not that much more expensive than in the states. $8 a pound is high, sure, but even in Texas I commonly see $5 a pound in the grocery stores.

    17 pound brisket @ $8.17 CAD per pound = about $5.96 USD per pound…

  4. Kratos2191

That’s 5.85 USD per pound if anyone is wondering.

  5. Many_Act_2990

Feels like I was paying that price for ribeyes just a few years ago

  6. cartooned

Yeah that’s about what I pay in California. You’re doing fine.

As an American who did NOT vote for the guy who said he would “lower grocery prices on day one” and then failed to lower ANYTHING price related by driving the economy into a ditch….

I would like to offer an apology on behalf of Americans everywhere. Sorry, Canada.

Any yes, I feel quite ashamed that he and his cult suggested that you should become our 51st state. (Not only is it insulting, but it’s huge F-U to Puerto Rico who has been hoping and praying for quite a while now.) So sorry for that too.

I’ll shuffle off to eat some more ground beef…because *those* prices? No thank you.

    Signed,

    An Embarrassed American.

  8. Not a bad price, clearly it isn’t Alberta beef.

  9. Few_Preparation_5902

Not sure where you are but in Regina, Sask we have Coop and they are typically $4-7 CAD sometimes on sale for $3.

It’s not the worst price I have seen but a couple years ago 2.99 lb sales were not uncommon. Pick up a AAA prime Alberta brisket for 60 bucks at save on. I would have a few in the freezer. I haven’t seen that in a while.

Costco has gone up SIGNIFICANTLY. Where are you located?

  12. Environmental_Bath98

$17.99 per kg is pretty standard here in Australia, often times more depending on the type of beef…..

  13. AD_VICTORIAM_MOFO

I have a beef processing plant in my town and prices are still that high all over

  14. Winter-Paper-7460

I started splitting half a cow with a buddy. Support a local farmer and stop getting screwed. My last cow came out to just over 4 usd a pound. Bones included, organ meat optional, steaks pre cut and burger in one pound bricks.

  15. Man_Without_Nipples

It’s not so bad actually OP. If you check against American prices after converting we’re only higher by like 80 cents ($1 max)

  16. pulford42

13.21/kg when on sale at sobeys. I honestly get all my meats from there….

  17. squirellydansostrich

OP, during spring/summer Co-op here in SK regularly puts their briskets on sale for 4.99/kg. Highly recommend checking that out in Edmonton.

  18. Low-Emergency-1503

Just paid $11 per lb at my butcher on Vancouver Island. You’re doing alright….lol

  19. EbbAffectionate4008

I wish it was this cheap in Germany. Wait… Canada.. do you also do the +tax thing or is it included?

  20. joesephmamma1

You can always buy Canadian Beef if you want to pay more.

  21. That’s around $8 a pound. The cheap cuts of brisket in my small town USA is around $6-$7. How much cheaper is a brisket usually in Canada?

  22. BloodyR4v3n

My Norwegian friend would probably kill someone for those prices lol.

  23. ctjameson

Only the finest Berta Beef. S&P’s the one for me.

  24. Fairweather92

Southern Ontario here, I can find brisket on sale for 5-6$/lb typically. I’ve found Costco isn’t a deal on meats although the quality is pretty decent. The sales I see on brisket are often cheaper than buying ground beef and although it’s a travesty to say I have bought a few and broken them down into stewing meat, roasts and ground beef….gotta save however you can these days

  25. Careless-Resource-72

$6 USD/pound is pretty average even here in Texas. On sale, you can get it for less (like $4/lb at Kroger this week). Ribs and pork shoulder is where the bargains are for summer at $2 for ribs and as low as $0.79 for pork butts when on sale.

  26. TheRemedyKitchen

That’s rough. I can occasionally find them for a little better at superstore or save-on foods in my area, but they’re still usually over a hundred bucks. It’s almost not even worth it any more

  27. michaelsean438

I get prime for under $5.00 as Costco and Sam’s from time to time.

  28. ThatCanadianViking

They were just on sale a couple weeks ago at Food Basics. 4.98 (or some such per pound) keep your eyes peeled. At least around here they seem to go on sale every month or so at that price. Works out to between 80 and 110? Per.

  29. Shits cheaper at independent, never thought id see the day

  30. C_Woodswalker

Chicken prices are horrible as well – $20 for a small roaster at Walmart in Ontario.

  31. kwtransporter66

    Along with we Americans.
I live in beef country and there’s more fucking cows in the state than people, yet we are paying $17 per pound for a fucking ribeye steak.

  32. LankeeClipper

That’s about 20% higher than in the states (depending on whether that’s more like choice or prime)

It’s equal to $5.96 per pound for those that care to know.

  33. MidCenturyDog

How many loonies and toonies does this equal to?

  34. born_zynner

That’s 16 pounds of brisket my boi what do you expect
