The good folks at LA Taco recently profiled the Tacos Cinco y Diez stand (find them on IG@tacos_5y10). They're located by the Hauser Blvd/10fwy overpass. Parking is really tight around there so be prepared to park in a "no parking zone" if need be.

The stand has been around for a while but I think their new, signature dish might be new-ish: a giant corn tortilla (burrito-sized), coated in black beans, protein of your choice, then sprinkled with queso, cabbage and guacamole then folded/rolled (but not burrito-style).

It's more like a folded tlayuda, especially given the size, but what really struck me was a simple question: how come more places don't use ginormous corn tortillas?!

I always assumed that maiz doesn't lend itself to larger tortilla sizes but as two of the photos in my set show, once pressed out, you can toss them onto the griddle and they'll bubble and warp like "regular" sized corn tortillas. Seems like something other taquerias could do but I really don't know. Regardless, it was very cool to try a dish like this that I had never had before. And the size is certainly big enough to feed 1-2.

As a dish: it was…good! Not world-changing; the flavors were all familiar and while it was tasty, the form was more unique than the taste itself. The chicken was good, well-seasoned and juicy, and the black beans added some textural contrast. They give you three different salsa containers and they're all pretty good and the dish benefits from that extra hit of heat and flavor. 8/10

I also ordered a vampire with al pastor and this was also different: I'm used to the Sonoran style of vampiro that I've had at countless stands: a layer of cheese on a corn tortilla and then that's throw on a grill which warps the tortilla. In this case though, I found it closer to a small tostada: the base wasn't cheese but more of those black beans and the cheese was mixed into the pile of al pastor. It was good but I prefer the Sonoran style. 7/10
