The submission period for what will be the 20th annual Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association (ASWA) contest entries runs through the remainder of July.

Entries will be accepted through Aug. 1, Grant Crandall, ASWA president, said. He has been connected with the contest for 13 years.

“Over the last few years, there has been a noticeable increase in Petit Verdot and Albarino as well as more experimentation with Italian varietals,” he said, when asked about any trends he has noticed.

The competition will take place Aug. 9-10 at The Marriott Tysons Corner, Tysons Corner, Virginia. It’s the largest wine competition in the nation that focuses exclusively on U.S. East Coast wines.

ASWA, since 1973, gained national and international recognition for activities promoting the growth and economic viability of the American wine industry.

The contest is just one part of that promotion, which focuses on the wine-producing regions of the East Coast.

The purpose of the competition, according to a press release, is to judge the quality and marketability of vinifera, native, and hybrid grape varietals (including sweet wines) grown and produced in the Atlantic Seaboard states.

Ciders, meads and fruit wines are also judged.

You may register and pay for the competition via the ASWA’s new online form at (you may also scan the QR code below): https://judge.that.wine/enter/index.php?comp=aswa25

An unlimited number of entries is allowed. Wineries may enter more than one wine per classification category. Each entry will consist of three (3) 750ml bottles submitted for evaluation. In the case of wines in 375ml bottles, four (4) bottles will be required in the entry.  Wines bottled in 500ml bottles require only three (3) bottles.

Registration fees are $70 per entry.  Pre-registration is mandatory.
