Hi again, new account after some more concerns about people trying to track me down lol. This is the same guy, but a seperate account just for food so that stops being an issue. Review in comments
Tl:dr of changes: Hashiri SF moved up, Sushi Shin moved down, Tier 1 kaiseki moved down to reflect more balanced take on them and added Sawa Sushi, Omakase Ren and Secret Sushi to the list

Holy crap you really like sushi. Good looks, glad to see some places I didn’t like at all at the bottom of your list (Robin, Omakase) surprised Kusakabe was so high for you.

Your review of Showa is a bit of a let down for my sky high hopes. Good tonkatsu is so hard to find outside of Japan. As a Californian who lives within 2 hours of SF, I was very hopeful Showa would become my go-to option.
I suppose it’s just as well, since the reso is damn near impossible to get. I’ll just have to keep waiting for my next trip to Japan.
If I may ask, where would n/naka and Hayato rate in your rankings?

Sushi Nagai (RWC) – I’m guessing this is run by the same chef as the short-lived Sushi Nagai at Ellis and Powell near Union Square. I went shortly after it opened in 2019, and it was by far the worst, most awkward sushi experience of my life. Still gives me nightmares.
Thanks for sharing and putting in all the work to visit these places. Gives me an up to date reference to choose where to visit when I’m back home next month.

I was the only customer when I visited Sushi Ai a few months ago. Basically had a personal sushi chef and waiter lol

Hey OP. If you are taking suggestions try out 808 Zone in Foster City. I’d be curious to see what you think about it.

I’ve seen that uni box before. Buy mine was better. One up on ya! Must have been good. Very mellow, not outstandingly flavor forward.

Loved Yoshizumi and Hashiri; will definitely look into Katsu
