Located in Jesmond, Newcastle, Peace and Loaf is a great restaurant that probably deserves more recognition. Not in the Michelin Guide, but certainly deserves to be recommended.
Some imaginative cooking, well balanced dishes, with only the one missing a touch of seasoning.
1. Ajo Blanco.
Strong garlic, lovely hit of flavour. Smooth
2. Fried minestrone.
An orzo arranchini strong in tomato and ham hock
3. Cured salmon, aperol, elderflower.
Lightly cured salmon, crisp pastry, flavourful beetroot, subtle dressing of elderflower and aperol
4. Cheesy Chip.
100 layered chip, isle of mull cheddar custard. Crispy and soft inside chip, rich cheddar custard, yet well balanced. An imaginative dish that really worked
5. Maryland Chicken
Fried chicken, vegan banana sauce, peri mayo. Beautiful moist fried chicken, great crisp and crunch. Subtle spice from the peri mayo, sweetness from the banana
6. Focaccia, 'nduja butter, crisps
Nicely spiced butter, offset by a lime hit. Lovely bread, crisps added a texture difference
7. Lamb shank, courgette, gordal, goats cheese
Very subtle. Meaty slow cooked lamb, tender. Nicely cooked courgette added a bit, along with creamy feta and a hit from the olives
8. Baked cod, beans, red pepper
Perfectky cooked fish, nice herbaceous crumb and flavourful sauce. A touch under seasoned but tasty
9. Iberico, pineapple, burrata, basil
Iberico fillet cooked nicely, great sausage and belly. Hit of spice, balanced sweetness from the pineapple
10. Pimm's jelly, compressed strawberry and cucumber sorbet.
A nice palate cleanser, seasonal, sweet and clean
11. Macadamia mousse, vanilla crema, passion fruit
Sweet, rich, nice punch from the passion fruit
12. Raspberry and lychee macaroni
Very sweet, not much raspberry

It is a surprise it’s not in the guide. It’s a great introduction to this style of food and it’s at a good price point and has been for years. Brilliant place.
