This was my first time trying carrots so my expectations were low as they’re infamously underwhelming sometimes 😂. Very happy with this, definitely learned a lot and need to thin better, also we harvested about 3 weeks past the 70 days 😬. Pulling them up and seeing what they looked like was as my wife put it “better than fishing”.

We used a mix of Walmart expert gardener soil and a high quality very light blend from our greenhouse (idk the name but it’s from Canada and you have to go through a dealer), this specialty blend was the key to success as it stays very loose and allowing the carrot to grow.

We’re going to do 3 beds (this was one 5’x3’) for the fall crop. Can’t wait to see when we apply everything we’ve learned.

Happy gardening and bountiful harvests to you all!💚

  1. They look lovely! Did you use gloves to pull them out? I’ve heard the greens can cause burns.

Love it!! I planted carrots for the first time this year too and I gotta be honest, harvesting them was a lot more of a high than I expected 😂 planning on planting out for a fall harvest here soon!

Beautiful! How do they taste? Better than grocery store carrots? 😉

Great job. I think I know what I need to do differently.

My carrots looked crooked and horrible and at least green for half of it.

I believe my soil was not fine enough and I should have e covered the shoulders when they popped above the soil.

Does that sound right to you?

I love all the different colors!
Something I love about growing things myself is that I was able to order all these different seeds (including various colors of carrots) that I have never tried before and can’t buy in the grocery store anywhere. I also ordered like 5 different colors and types of tomatoes that I’m very excited to grow

The mutant carrot twin is absolutely incredible hahah I would have to preserve it somehow, I’d feel bad eating it

That’s a very nice carrot harvest, especially for the first time! The multicolor carrots are a lot of fun, because it’s kind of like a kid on christmas finding out what color the carrot ended up being. I use the harlequin mix from Renees, and as long as I wait long enough I get a pretty good crop out of them.

The purple ones are great mixed in a slaw for a little extra color, too.

Well done! How deep was the soil, this was in a raised bed? What seeds did you use? I’m near Ottawa and have some rainbows and nantes growing in a raised bed right now, no where near ready for harvest though. I used ecomene and McKenzie seeds
