The only damage I can see is the glaze chipping off near the cap. I’m going to give it a super thorough look over on the inside in person.

I’ve been planning to buy a brand new XL but for $400 it seems like a great deal, and I should be able to use some enamel paint to seal up the few cracks.

Curious to get thoughts.

  1. Mine has been missing chunks of glaze for years with no ill effects. I don’t plan on filling a warranty claim until I have problems cooking.

XL for that price I would go for it in a heartbeat. Maybe look how much a new dome is but you will probably still come out way under if you have to replace it someday down the road.

Yes, but make sure to look for cracks all over first.

Just check for cracks to the insides. The glazing can be resolved. It won’t look original
    But it’ll hold up.

Also the daisy wheel top can be cleaned up. It’s cast iron so just clean it up as you would dirty old cast iron. Mine looks good as new:

It’s either that or a new mini max for the same price. Both are amazing.

I’ve had my xl for 22 years and got a couple small spots like this. No issues at all when cooking. Mine came from living in New England and not covering it religiously in the winter.

  7. Mine has the glaze chipped on it a bit I got the touch up paint and it’s been solid for 2 years now I would snag this without debate

Beware of buying any used high end Kamado model because of the likelihood of major damage

I inherited a large but looking into a larger or additional large. Need more space because the demands for meat are high around here since I got it 3 months ago. Neighbor’s come by now that barely used to talk to me lol

  10. I wouldn’t pay a dime over $399

Know your worth. Negotiate for that extra dollar.

And more importantly. Get that egg.

A replacement XL dome is only $370. But you can always try the touch up paint first for $9. Either way, it’s a pretty big savings over new.

I bought a used Egg more that a decade ago and have used it at least weekly since without a problem. That being said, there’s two types of ceramics. Ones that are cracked and ones that are going to crack.
