Are Habaneros usually this gnarly?

Mine usually are. Looks nice and healthy

Mine are big with a deep folds, looking way different than standard but still habs. I think they can vary a lot.

Depends on each particular plant’s genetics. Sometimes smooth, sometimes wrinkled. They look good to go.

How long until they turn color? Mine have been that size and green for long time 😞

So, if they ripen orange then probably a proper Hab, if some other color then the genes have been mingled with a Reaper or Scorpion. In either case you should pop a whole ripe one in your mouth. If it feels like 300,000 Scoville then it’s most likely a Hab, if it feels like 1.2 million Scoville then it’s probably mingled with super hots.

In my opinion, think the likes of Reaper and Scorpion are so common place these days that their genetics are getting spread around and heating up the cross compatable cultivars.

I’ve not grown any yet but have eaten 100s & 100s through the years and they do look like that but orange or brown. Yours will change colors soon enough.

Potentially something hotter but hopefully equally delicious

IMO, They should have folds. Shouldn’t be as smooth as Jalapeños. That being said, these look like they might be hotter than usual.

  9. They sure are and wait until they turn a beautiful Red! It’s so cool.

I had one like this a few years ago, but it lived next to a Ghost. So, sometimes!
