Chalone paid a wine dividend every year As I recall if you owned say 10000 shares and the dividends was $0.50 per share then you could buy $10000 worth of wine for $5000. Anyway, they were partly owned by Lafitte Rothschild back then and sold to Diageo regrettably. Anyway, I bought a bunch of wine over the years and this is a 1999 magnum. Probably gone bad as it had high merlot content. bought two Mags. and Gave one to me to my Mother and it turned in 2020 however, I still have this Magnum left and have kept it in cool and shade. I will try and upload the picture. Tell me what you think. I’m moving again ugh and have rediscovered it. My wife wants me to chuck it, but I refuse. Should I just open and drink with friends and hope for the best? The other bottle was bad, but unkept. Perhaps I should sell it, but that’s not really why I buy wine. Thanks in advance!! Enjoy reading and best to all!!

Open it! Throw a pre moving party
That’s not a magnum, it’s a methuselah/imperial. That size is almost impervious.
Merlot ages incredibly well. Especially in large format. Its a good vintage too. If its not good it is probably more to do with the storage. 99 was a long time ago, time to open that bad boy up
The internet is fucking wild man.
If this was kept even remotely appropriately it should be fantastic notwithstanding issues of bottle variation ie leaky cork, cork taint, etc. Merlot of this level can age decades, especially in larger format bottles, FYI.
