The Australian government announced its support of $1.1 million for Australian wine makers and grape growers.
In addition to the $3.5 million Grape and Wine Sector Long-term Viability Support Package delivered by Wine Australia, the funding is aimed at supporting the resilience of the sector following the oversupply of red wine.
“Wine Australia welcomes this additional funding from the Australian Government, which recognises the critical role the grape and wine sector plays in regional communities and international trade,” said CEO of Wine Australia Martin Cole.
The new funding will go towards expanding access to international markets, promoting trade diversification, and supporting research into new technologies and tools for managing plant pests.
One example of this support is the upcoming Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference (AWITC), which will bring together grape growers, winemakers and other key industry stakeholders in Adelaide for four days of knowledge sharing and networking in late July.
As part of the Showcasing Australian Agriculture – Regional Trade Events Program, $550,000 in grant funding was awarded to the Australian Wine Research Institute to help grow the reach and impact of AWITC in 2025 and 2028.
“Funding for the Wine Sector Long-term Viability Support Package and the AWITC aims to enhance engagement with key international trading partners and support greater collaboration across the sector which we know is critical,” said minister for agriculture, fisheries and forestry Julie Collins.
This funding will encourage new investment and connections, increase participation across the sector, and foster stronger engagement with key international trade partners.
