I have no problem with paying in advance for a reservation and I know that protects a restaurant from no-shows – but why charge fees that don’t go toward the final bill? I’m down $2.50 a person if I don’t show up, but also if I do show up like I said I would?

Yes it’s annoying, and they have always done this.

I hate this. I would be completely fine if it went towards the actual bill but this is such a slippery slope to making ny reservations even more garbage than they already are

  3. original_hoser

Just keep on giving me more reasons to not eat out.

  4. Blue_foot

How long a wait to be seated is allowed before the fee would be refunded?

  5. 4 Charles does the same thing and it’s $5. They’re part of the same restaurant group. Not saying I’m a fan of this but just saying all their restaurants do this unfortunately

Prob to combat the supposed scalpers for restaurant reservations but theres way better routes lol

Shawnaes house also does this but $10 pp. simple math shows they may pay their rent alone from that fee

And if you just show up you might get a table but often is an uncomfortable counter space or a weird side table where everyone is waiting. It should at least go towards the bill.

Stopped trying to get reservations at the places that do this. Plenty elsewhere to eat in this city

The place is overrated the service sucks so this isn’t shocking

All of the Hogsalt restaurants in Chicago that take reservations (Bavette’s, Gilt Bar, etc) do the same thing. They are the only restaurant group that o know of that does that.

au cheval is so mid, makes sense they’d charge the clowns clamoring to go there

like it’s a fine establishment, but def not worth any more effort or care than 50 other american restos in city

I hate this. Although one way around it is to call to make a reservation. Avoids the fee

  14. This is dumb. I’d rather pay a $25-per-person reservation fee that goes toward the final bill than a $2.50 fee that’s just gone forever.

  15. panzerxiii

Why do you people keep going to these places lmao

  16. Mukigachar

The burger is not good enough to warrant this

  17. cheerfulwish

It’s funny if you just walk in, there is no fee

  18. HorchaTaro

I know it’s “just $2.29” but Ima need that to go towards the bill some how.

shoutout to the sad au cheval employee downvoting everything lmaoo

    A cover fee for a reservation 🤦🏾‍♀️

It’s not the amount but the principal. I refuse to support any restaurants with this mentality

    Not a good look.

I used to work for this group in Chicago. Tone deaf management. Someone sued them or their competitors for no break, so they told us we all had to come in 30 minutes early and take a break before we started our shift.

Many fish in the ocean; we should go somewhere else. I’m a complete foodie, enjoy the entire process and also cook a lot. But the area of restaurants/cuisine is still so highly overrated! I’d rather help causes then titillate my palette paying $1000 or more sometimes!!

I recall one of the local news outlets mentioned that if you ate out for every meal in NYC, you’d be able to eat for 30 years without trying the same restaurant twice. Vote with your wallet and don’t support that BS.
