I’m sitting here admiring my work, the work I should be doing more of. And I find so many other things to do. And by not doing that, I’m destroying my garden. Hi, this is Robbie from Southern California. And today I want to talk about tulle. And you know, I talk about that all the time for years and years. And I’m so glad to see so many other gardeners are starting to use it. I worked in a fabric store when I was a kid. Oh, don’t ask how many decades ago it was. And I knew because I gardened as a kid that this was going to protect my garden. So when I started getting really serious here, that was the first thing I went and got. And of course, let me tell you something right now. This entire bolt, which is 54 in wide, 40 yards, not feet, 40 yards long, you can get for under $10. And I always put the link in my description, not those little pictures that are there. You have to go in the description. You have to hit more sometimes depending if you’re on a phone, a tablet, a computer or what you’re on, Windows or Apple. But the thing is, you have to hit more and then you’ll see all the links. Once you see the links, go ahead and look at it. It’s on eBay. I used to sell on eBay for like 15 years. I find it one of the safest, best places, especially when you know you’re buying from within the United States. So, here it is. It’s like 10 bucks. It’s less than that, but let’s just say 10 bucks. You probably could do your whole yard for that. And then the next thing you may want to use, is maybe some painters tape. Whether it’s blue or green, that’s up to you. And then all the goodies in here, which is basically zip ties, which I rarely use because I tend to use these paper fasteners that are so cheap. I don’t know if you can see that. There it is. So, let me show you what I’ve done this morning and why I needed painters tape. I tried to stall on putting up the tool because something was eating my plant and I’m trying to get everything done around here because I have way too many gardens to take care of and it’s like, well, I just don’t have the 10 minutes it’s going to take me to do it, which is stupid. I could have put 10 minutes of time into that the other day and my poor plant would not have been eaten. But you know what? It worked out really good because I get to show you what happened. This plant is being eaten by the same thing I found was eating that. So, I set up my camera and I use my wise cams around here to spy on things. I think it’s really great and they’re cheap. And sure enough, cuz I thought it was birds, it was not birds, it was a squirrel. He’s been sitting and eating here. This was all last week. So, after spending 10 minutes, and this was not even 10 minutes. If you look, it’s simply four tomato steaks with a couple clips and a piece of tulle wrapped around all the way to the bottom. You don’t want to just stop it here because they could come and push it. You want to go ahead and you want to stop it on the bottom so when they leap, they get caught in it. Once they get their toenails in it, let me zoom out a little bit. Then they leave. Now they haven’t touched it. So I got a whole bunch of new growth and hopefully this plant will be fine. It probably will. I’ve got flowers already starting, new leaves coming cuz he didn’t eat the center. As you can see, he was sitting there munching and enjoying himself on the leaves. So now this one, which was covered with a basket. You know those baskets you get from Dollar Tree that are now $1.50. Well, the plant, of course, it’s a squash. It’s going to get too big. This is a yellow squash. So 10 minutes, I put the irrigation tubing here. I’ll tell you why. Even though it’s not looking like it’s doing anything. And in 10 minutes, I had this thing wrapped. That’s all I need. But it’s 10, 20, 30, 40. So, it drives me crazy, which it shouldn’t because this was something I’ve been doing for years. A lot of other gardeners are now using it because the cloth that they sell that covers your plants for protecting it from birds is deadly to birds. This is not This is not deadly to anything. Anything can get in there when you leave the top open so the bees can come, they can pollinate. I’m not trying to keep the birds out, but if you were, then you’d want to cover the whole thing. But this is how this one went up. It was so easy. And I did my watermelon the same way. Just four stakes, tulle wrapped around, clipped on the base of my tote. If you were working with the ground, then you’re going to have to stick something on the ground and clip it on around on the ground because you can use this anywhere. You can use it on a bucket, flower pot, grow bag, totes, whatever you’re using. And then here when you wrap it around, I used to kind of clip it and grab it. No, no, no. I’m I forgot. I was doing this 12 years ago. You take a piece of painters tape and just wrap it on your sticks, whatever you’re using. And then you clip on your fasteners that way. That’s it. So, the painters tape stays there until you pull it off. That’s nothing but a tag. Here, I’ll show you onehanded. It’ll be hard, but I’ll put it back afterwards. See, it’s just a tag. It’s a tag so you can put your clip on. That’s it. Nothing more than a tag. Now you put your tool up there. Look, I can do it onehanded. And I just put it on like that. And now it’s not going to slip down. Now I’ve completely protected my plant. It’s the easiest thing to do, the cheapest thing to do. You can wrap your fruit with it if you’ve got apples, if you’ve got figs or peaches, or you could do a lot of things with tulle. Sometimes just wrapping the base of a plant will stop the critters that are getting in. Look how old this tool is. Over a year old and it’s protecting all my tomatoes. We keep coming and picking tomatoes. I was going to change it out cuz it’s so faded. That is the turquoise one. That’s one of the cheapest ones they sell. You get into other colors, they might go up to $12. So, you have to decide how much you want to spend. But you can get a lot of different colors. I think navy blue and and turquoise and white. color doesn’t matter. Stepping back and looking, yes, you can see the turquoise. You can barely see the green and you can barely see black. So, it’s up to you. If you’re looking for something that’s going to look really pretty and it’s going to blend in with your plants, then you go more with a green color. If you want to cover something and you don’t care and you want the cheapest tool, especially this is one of the cheapest links there are, and they ship out right away and they’re in the United States. I didn’t say made in the United States, but the company’s in the United States. Then you pick out the color that you want. It doesn’t matter if you can see it. And sometimes you want a certain color because you can see it. So if you were wrapping something on a tree, let’s say some fruit, you want to use red or white or something because you want to walk out there and spot it. That’s when you use a color specifically for what you want. But this is all there is to it. I think it looks great. I better do something with that tomato or I’m going to lose that. I will be wrapping tool. See, I’m lazy. It’s It’s not lazy. Hold on. I’m working all over the place here. You see my stool out there? Like there’s the watermelon I had to cover. It’s not laziness. What it is is time. And I do have to find the time like I just did. Put this up what days and days ago. And now the plant’s making a comeback. And with this one, I just did this this minute with the watermelon both of them today. This is going to be fine. This will be the next one to do. So, I’m going to tell you a funny story. What just happened? So, I had the camera set up and I knew something was eating my beautiful tomatoes. Well, you can see it. It was a squirrel. But look at this. Guess what he’s got on him? It looks like he’s wearing a dress. It is my tool. Now, I didn’t have it clipped on. I literally had just wrapped it around loose. Wasn’t clipped on. And when he went in there to eat my tomatoes, he got it stuck on him. He was running around. His friend was running all over the place and he didn’t know what to do because remember they have really sharp nails. Now, of course, he can run off and pull it off. But the funny thing was is Gary was coming home and he heard the car coming in the driveway. So, he darted under the trees and Gary heard something and he went over there and this is what he found under the trees. Came home and you saw what happened to the squirrel. Yeah, he was running with the tool stuck to him and the only reason he got out of it is the tool snagged on a stick and he had a way of pushing forward, but otherwise he was just caught inside the tool. And what’s funny is I haven’t covered the plant back yet. He hasn’t come near it. I think he’s afraid of it. And why do I sometimes put irrigation tubing and sometimes not? I love the irrigation tubing because I can drape tulle over that without tearing it and it supports it really well. But sometimes I just throw it on because this is the way I’m servicing and this way I’m protected. So if I get in there and I bend over, I’m safe. Let’s walk around the other side for a minute. I’ll show you the difference. If I’m going to service it from here, and sometimes I even do it at night. I don’t want to poke myself on here. So this is the way I usually don’t service. And that’s the only thing. a little extra protection because there’s no way to hurt yourself on that. That’s another reason I do it. But see the support it gives. So, it’s whatever way you want to do it. Either way works. I just love my tool. I hope I’ve given you ideas. Get some tool. Order it right away. You can always get it from a fabric store. But that can save your garden. So, I hope I’m giving you pointers to keep your garden growing on the cheap, but to have the best garden in the world.
