Was recommended to read this by my head chef at the time, never heard of Anthony Bourdain let alone was into reading books.
Stuck to it though cause I respected the shit out of my Head chef, he took me under his wing and ended up offering me an apprenticeship in Cooking. I owe a lot to him.
It’s amazing re-reading this book, after so many years in the industry. Just how true and on point the way the world works if you are a kitchen devotee.
So many chuckles and snickers at Anthony’s writing, mainly cause it’s just straight up truth and I can relate.
For anyone new to working in kitchens or who hasn’t read this book. Do your self a favour. Pick it up and put in the time. You won’t regret it.

I encountered this book at a very pivotal point in my life. I thought going back to work in a kitchen meant that I had failed at other endeavors. Anthony let me know that I wasn’t a failure. I owe a lot of my mental fortitude to my time reading this.
The audio book is even better with him narrating
I heard about the book, but I don’t know anything about it. Would it be relatable for someone who moved on from the chef life?
However you may feel about the man, he was definitely a top-notch storyteller.
I’ve read it twice. He’s a great writer.
I need to pick up a copy, I loaned mine to a work friend and he ended up getting fired like a month later. Didn’t get my book back 🙁
