Washington, D.C. (7News) — Bastille Day is a French national holiday dating back to the 1700s. Often referred to as French National Day, the holiday commemorates the Storming of the Bastille, and subsequent unity of the French people. Executive Chef of Pastis Cory Chunn stopped by Good Morning Washington on Monday to share how they’re celebrating.
Pastis DC is the Union Market location of the beloved French bistro Pastis NYC. Their menu features French-inspired classics mixed with local favorites. The restaurant also boasts a vintage, homey atmosphere for family meals and events.
Chunn is serving up a tomato and burrata salad, duck confit and special hors d’oeuvres for Pastis DC’s summer menu. The menu also features a tomato tart with goat cheese fondue.
A main feature in honor of Bastille Day is caramelized, melty raclette, a semi-firm cheese with a wash rind native to France. Chunn serves this cheese fresh on baguette, or atop the Bastille Day signature tartiflette.
Other specials for the holiday include champagne, cocktails and a special hot dog topped with French ingredients, peppers and relish.
