It’s officially now summer and what better way to celebrate than indulging in a tasty picnic in the sun.

But if scotch eggs and sausage rolls are your idea of picnic hell and you don’t want to slave over the sarnies, you can order a sumptuous alternative from Italian restaurant chain Carluccios, priced at £45 (for two).

And if you’re taking the little ones with you, you can order a special picnic for children.

But as the picnics need to be ordered within a four-hour notice period, you can’t be too spontaneous.

What can we eat?The meat feast

You can choose between the classic and vegetarian options, both featuring an antipasti selection, classic Ligurian focaccia and bruschettine with fresh ricotta, mint and pea shoots.

There are also larger dishes of citrus poached chicken breasts and soft goat’s cheese salad with beetroot, asparagus, walnuts, radish and baby spinach shout.

Vegetarian option

The vegetarian picnic menu features meat-free alternatives of chargrilled vegetable antipasti and stuffed peppers with aubergine, olives, breadcrumbs and capers and a crisp side salad.

And both picnics come with a seasonal slice of strawberry and pistachio cake and a traditional fig, hazelnut and chocolate biscotti.

You don’t have to make a load of jam sandwiches for them either as – for £10 – you can order a a selection of delectable dishes including a freshly made mini pizzette; tuna mayo dip with vegetable crudités, creamy Italian cow’s cheese wedges, and classic homemade beef meatballs in a tomato sauce.

And then a chocolate sponge teddy bear will be a welcome sweet treat along with freshly squeezed orange juice.

Picnics can be ordered as little as four hours in advance from your local Carluccio’s – then simply pop in, pick it up and head for your happy place.
