Late night find at my local Ralph’s. $136.03 Is it safe to assume it was properly stored? Why would a wine of this caliber make it to the clearance shelf?

Still too expensive. The wine is good but I wouldn’t spend more than 50 on it

I can only imagine they don’t know wine too well

Why does anything get put on clearance? It wasn’t selling. New buyer gets hired and is told to clean up the department a bit, they can’t bring in new stuff until they clear out some other things. Buyers in retail chains like Ralph’s only have so much space to play with aside from all the corporate BS they’re forced to carry.
Does that particular Ralph’s have a cellar room/temperature-controlled cabinet for nicer bottles, or has it been standing upright under harsh lighting since it was purchased (by a buyer who is certainly no longer there) 7-8 years ago?
At the end of the day just because it’s a nice/high quality/high-scoring/etc etc wine doesn’t mean it will sell, as evidenced by a 10-year old Tig gathering dust in your local grocery store. As a wine buyer you have to be realistic about what sells and know your audience.

Well, when you put such an offer on a pricey wine, it normally implies that the buyer is assuming that the wine could not be completely ok or at least there is a chance of it. Right?

if it’s on discount, go for it 😀

Not bad for 136+tax. Worst comes to worst, it goes in the ragu.

Likely still ok, it’s not like it’s a fragile white in a transparent bottle and it’s also not that old. Would definitely be worth a try

Will they give you a refund, if it’s cooked? Open it in front of them, if it’s good you got a deal.
