The Place Tucked just behind French neo-brasserie Claudine, there is a new dining concept by Chef Julien Royer and The Lo & Behold Group. Meet La Terrace, a new casual concept located at the backyard of Claudine. I honestly would not mind if my backyard looks like this as the setting feels like I am in the countryside of France.

I love the glass to ceiling windows of La Terrace which overlooks the pet-friendly outdoor terrace, and the open fields of Dempsey, a sight hard to come by in urban Singapore.

The Food The menu is a concise selection of cold and hot plates, along with a main course, and desserts. The menu extends Claudine’s approachable French fare, featuring shareable plates alongside a laid-back drinks programme focused on curated gins.

For a start, I had the Sardine Toast (S$18) which spots a nice crisp texture topped with Aioli and Shallot Pickles.

Another cold starter I had was the Hokkaido Scallop Crudo (S$26) which is dressed in Yuzu Kosho Dressing, Blood Orange and Capucine.

If you crave for a healthy snack, there is the crunchy Radishes (S$12) served with a dip of Greek Yoghurt and Chives.

As opposed to the cold starters, the hot starters are more sinful and delicious. The Zucchini Flower (S$24) should be a crowd pleaser as this is done Tempura-style and served with a Seasoned Cottage Cheese dip.

The Tapioca Fritters (S$12) is another fried snack served in four mini cubes for ease of eating, and you get that slight cheesy taste as it is topped with Comte and Vin Jaune.

For mains, there is only one option on the menu and there is no reason not to love the Half-Roasted Chicken (S$58). I quipped to The Rantee that this is akin to our local Singaporean chicken rice, though uses premium Niigata Rice where the best part are the bits of Crispy Chicken Skin amidst the rice.

Aside from the tender chicken meat, the rice itself is deliciously good that I forgot that I am on a low-carb diet. The portion serves 2 to 3 pax.

For desserts, the Lemon Tart (S$14) is not too sweet for me, which uses Amalfi Lemon and served with a side of Vanuatu Vanilla.

Alternatively, go for the Freshly Baked Madeleines (S$16) with Acacia Honey and Organic Lemon as the freshly baked bites are irresistible to stop at one.

Rants There is only one main course option on the menu. The indoor space is not huge, where it is best to reserve as well.

Will I Return Again? A gorgeous space for light bites in Dempsey. La Terrace is a beautiful idea, somewhat romantic and remotely foreign such that I almost forgot I am in Singapore. The Half-Roasted Chicken is worth a return.
