The 15th edition of Gambero Rosso’s Guida Oli d’Italia reviewed 828 oils from 437 companies. Five price ranges were considered (from 10 to over 30 euros per liter). Puglia, Sicily and Tuscany share the prize money for the best extra virgin olive oils in Italy. During Veronafiere, an event dedicated to the world of olive oil, the prize was presented the 15th edition of the Gambero Rosso Italian Oils Guide which reviewed 828 oils from 437 companies, awarding recognition of excellence to 183 labels awarded with the Three Leaves and 17 Special Prizes.
Puglia won the award for Best Organic Oil with Venterra, Cru #312 Monocultivar Picholine Bio; the award for Best Medium Fruity, went to Sabino Leone, Don Gioacchino Dop Terra di Bari Castel del Monte Monocultivar Coratina; the special award Frantoio dell’anno assigned to Conserva.
Tuscany won the Award for Best Blend assigned to Fattoria di Poggiopiano, Plenum Bio; the Award for Best IGP Oil assigned to Dievole, Igp Toscano; the Oil & Wine Award won by Poggio di Sotto.
Sicily took home the Award for Best Monocultivar with Mandranova, Monocultivar Cerasuola, the Award for Best Light Fruity assigned to Frantoi Cutrera, Monocultivar Biancolilla and the New Digital Technologies Award won by Frantoi Cutrera, Monocultivar Biancolilla.
Continuing, the Umbrian Company of the Year Award went to Marfuga, while the New Product of the Year Award went to Gea 1916, Recondita Armonia Dop Umbria Colli Martani Bio.
We continue with Sardinia which received the award for the Olive Grower of the Year in the person of Masoni Becciu, with Lazio for the Best Intense Fruity of the Quattrociocchi company with Olio di Roma Igp Roma Monocultivar Itrana.
Finally, the Best DOP Oil is Madonna delle Vittorie, Dop Garda del Trentino and the Olio&Turismo Award which went to Palazzo di Varignana dell’Emilia-Romagna.
Like every year, the Guide to facilitate consultation considers five price ranges (from 10 to over 30 euros per litre) and providing a rating that describes oils based on the number of Leaves assigned (One Leaf for interesting oils, Two Leaves for excellent ones, Three Leaves for exceptional ones)The organoleptic characteristics of the tasted products are evaluated on the basis of their aromatic profile, the value of fruitiness, bitterness and spiciness, giving the reader the opportunity to immediately identify which companies boast their own oil mill, or offer accommodation and catering options.
