Pompette, a French restaurant in South Parade, Summertown, is on the list.

Topping the list, as overall winner, was Lucky Lychee, a Malaysian restaurant in Winchester, while Cromer newcomer Fino was named Best Local Restaurant in Central and East of England.

The Guide’s anonymous inspectors travelled across the country to put nominations to the test, revealing how Britain really eats in 2025.

The guide said in a statement: “While the rising cost of dining out has hit the wallets of customers all over Britain, a major feature of this year’s list is affordability, with £15 lunch menus proving particularly popular.”

Pompette is a restaurant, charcuterie and wine bar owned by Oxford Brookes alumni  Pascal Weidemann and his wife Laura with French roots.

Named after the French word for tipsy, Pompette opened in late 2018 and started to attract impressive reviews after offering the residents of North Oxford something a little different.

The restaurant replaced Portabello in South Parade and has a rotating menu, serving mainly French cuisine.

One family who visited earlier this month posted the following five star review: “Pompette is best restaurant in Summertown and one of the best in Oxford.

“The ambience is incredible and the service is very attentive and friendly. Suzy looked after us with such care and kindness, giving us great recommendations that made our experience even more memorable.

“The wine list is one of the largest in Oxford and the service was perfect. Thanks Suzy and the team. We will see you again soon.”

Another reviewer, who visited in March, also gave five stars, writing: “Having been for steak frites night which was excellent we decided to venture out for a mid-week treat on a Wednesday and how great it was.

“The 1/2 chicken was deliciously moist and the frites and salad was amazing.

“Brilliant service from all of the staff – especially our lovely waiter from Goa. Can’t wait to go back.”

The guide’s compilers said the 2025 list celebrated wine bars serving small plates, neighbourhood bistros breathing life into faded towns, and cherished family-run gems where you can enjoy a great meal for under £20.

In a recent survey, 61 per cent of diners said that eating out has become too expensive for them this year.

The Good Food Guide  was first compiled by Raymond Postgate in 1951.

The guide was relaunched as a digital product in 2022, available through an app and website, and no longer publishes a print edition annually.
