BRISTOL, CT — A new restaurant featuring green bowls, gyros and an array of Mediterranean-style food opened this week in downtown Bristol.
The eatery, Fresh & Green Plate, began serving customers Monday at a newly-renovated space at 118 Main St.
Chef Debra Queen said the restaurant’s offerings are made fresh on the premises.
The menu features build-your-own style customizable salads and gyros. Customers can pick a base such as greens or quinoa; a protein like chicken, beef or lamb; a variety of toppings like eggs and cheese; and dressings.
The business offers specialty dressings made from scratch with names like “Avocado Green Goddess,” and “Pomegranate Balsamic.”
Customers can also get fresh hummus with flavors like roasted red pepper, and a signature green hummus featuring fresh herbs like basil and parsley. Rotisserie chicken and soups of the day are also on the menu.
“Our goal is to have everything as fresh as possible,” Queen said.
The restaurant provides healthy, organic, natural, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and locally-sourced options, according to Queen.
Owner Miledy Marmol said she chose the location because of its proximity to her other business ventures, including the Golden Adult Day Center and Golden Years Homemakers & Companions.
Marmol said she spent a couple of years completely renovating the new restaurant space, which formerly housed a cafe.
Her other ventures are in the health industry, and Marmol said she decided to open a restaurant focused on providing healthy eating options.
“I believe food has to be both delicious and nutritious,” Marmol said. “The community deserves to eat right and healthy.”
The business’ current hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Fridays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Saturdays.
