My boss a few times has had me close around 10 one night, open at 8 the following morning, work all day until 10, and then open up again the 3rd morning

Clopen shifts are bullshit
Misery_Division
Saturday shift ends at around 2am, 30-40 mins commute back, 1 hour to calm my hypertension and go to sleep
Sleep 5:30ish hours, go for a 13 hour shift on Sunday. Meanwhile FoH who have more staff are able to have 2 shifts on Sundays
Fuck this shit man

In certain states/cities you are within your legal rights to say no. I used to tell my managers at a different job I wouldn’t show up to clopen shifts cause there wasn’t atleast 10 hours between shifts.

I worked a 36 hour shift once. Now if I don’t get my 8 hours I’m a wreck. Getting old is great bc it teaches you to say “fuck that” to your boss!

I used to clopen allll the time when I was in my 20s. I would fucking die now.

Not a matter of can’t it’s a matter of won’t. Young people do this because they feel like they have to.

Clopen shifts are bullshit.
Open shift was 5am-3pm Closing shift was 2pm-midnight
Used to close at midnight, and come in at 5am to start slow roasting pork belly, order produce, do prep, set up lines, and setup registers. Powered entirely by dabs, monster assault, and self loathing for $8/hr.
GM: “hey, I made the schedule. Got you 40 hours and extra days off.”
Close->open to close->open
Every friday: “I need you to come in and close.”
Me: “Kill me”

The clopen is the dumbest shift combination imaginable. You want degradation in quality, staff injury and burnout? Because this is how you get degradation in quality, staff injury and/or burnout

I will never understand how that is a thing. Don’t labour laws require a minimum amount of time before one shift ends and another starts?

I’m doing it today

The only good thing about a clopen is you can kinda fuck the close if you’re okay with it in the morning.

You can… if you sleep in the locker room.
