All depends on where you live and how often used ones go to market. I bought a used Lg in PNW a few months ago in better condition with a few extras for $400. Just needs to make sense for you but love my Lg.

You’re basically getting the BGE itself, daisy wheel cap and the conveggtor, which all appear to be in good shape. Make sure you looked around the BGE for any structural cracks. The crazing on the paint isn’t an issue. The interior will clean up with a clean burn.
The cooking grate seems to be in good shape and it’s possible you’ll want to replace the bands/hinge in the near future.
You have the basics but will need to make some purchases, including a good cover and ashtool.

If you really like smoking just get 2 L-BGE so you have more smoking room for bigger events when needed. And just use 1 when there’s just 3 or 4 peeps

Not sure what the original question was: But is a large big enough? It depends😆 I have had a BGE large for over a year now, and love it. As to what I do with it… I bought it specifically for pizzas. I have smoked lots of pork butts,(even large a one fits with some room to spare, lots of chickens, and skewers. Mainly I do pizza, pork butts, and some large steaks for black and blue salads. Most of the time I am cooking for eight people. Three of which are teenagers, so when a smoker is needed I need volume -and I use my Weber WSM (22.5”) as I can fit a large packer brisket on it no problem and I can do 6 birds easily. And I usually grill hamburgers on my Weber kettle (22.5”) more space… If I wanted a BGE for mainly indirect cooking and smoking, I would buy a XL. For my needs, a BGE can’t be a dedicated smoker as it doesn’t suit my needs for volume. I know the XL can do a lot more than a large and I believe has a larger surface area than my Weber’s. That being said, I love doing pizzas on the BGE and probably do pizza (5-6 pies) at least once a week plus bake something on it while it’s fired up. It surprises me how much stuff people try smoking in a large BGE and still seem to be fine, but it just feels small to me. Especially for ribs and briskets. Not sure if that’s helpful? Maybe not the context?

I have used a large for years. Yes, there are times I wished it was bigger but, it’s not that often. I have 2 lg eggs. If I need more, I have it. Now it’s just me and “she who must be obeyed” so the large is way more than enough.
