Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant Cava continues to build its Midwest footprint, debuting its first Michigan location in Canton on Sunday, July 20.
Cava is inviting guests to its community day event at the Canton location for a complimentary meal as part of a benefit for hunger relief.
The Canton Cava, 43450 Ford Road, will open at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, for the event. Cava will match donations up to $1,000 during this event, with proceeds benefiting Gleaners Food Bank of Southeast Michigan.
Starting Sunday, the Canton Cava will be open 10:45 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
The nearly 4,000-square-foot restaurant features a dining room and offers digital ordering and delivery.According to a news release, Cava’s Canton location will staff 25-40 people.
Fast-growing Cava is known for its customizable bowls, pitas and sides of dips and specialty hummus. Cava boasts a menu made up of 38 ingredients that transform into combinations across its menu items, from bowls to juices to dressings.
Ike Grigoropoulos, Dimitri Moshovitis and Ted Xenohristos — sons of first-generation Greek immigrants — founded Cava. The trio, along with co-founder Brett Schulman, opened Cava in 2010 with a mission to “share the food they loved in an accessible fast-casual format,” its website says.
Cava’s menu pays homage to Mediterranean fare and traditions such as big Sunday lunches that the friends remember from childhood, including “slow-roasted lamb, lemony potatoes, lots of olives and bowls of tzatziki.”
With Cava’s customizable bowls, you can choose from greens like arugula, spinach and super greens or grains like saffron basmati rice paired with proteins, a wide variety of vegetables, sauces and dressings. Proteins to choose from include chicken, steak, falafel and its spicy lamb meatballs.
Cava’s signature crazy feta dip is made with whipped feta mixed with jalapeño, onions and olive oil. There’s also a selection of pitas, from crispy falafel to steak, garlic chicken and sides of pita, dips and spreads, like tzatziki and red pepper hummus.
The chain plans to open more Michigan locations this year. Michigan marks the 28th state for Cava locations.
In April, the nationwide chain announced plans for a new location at 636 Woodward Ave., next to Shake Shack and steps from Campus Martius Park. A Cava spokesperson said the chain intends to open later this year in the Detroit area, but did not confirm specifics.
