As a New Orleanian, I’m around a lot of great food. Folks tend to wanna know the best gumbo, the best beignet, et cetera, but rarely am I asked about the best burger. A shame because the city has some excellent burgers. Figured this sub would appreciate a little tour of some top contenders for New Orleans’ Best Burger.
Here’s my ranking:
Bub’s Burger – not pictured because when I get a burger from them my mind turns off. Will try to get a pic next time. The flavor is so strong and—idk—burgery. It’s a smash burger with no frills, but so delicious.
Original Slap Burger – hole in the wall spot in the Marigny at the back of Marie’s Bar. Big ol’ patties and flavorful meat. Comes out hot. Cooked to order. I’m obviously not a talented food writer, so just imagine a very good burger.
Company Burger – this is my wife’s favorite, and indeed, the favorite of many locals. Tends to be cooked med well so you might ask em to cook it more if that’s not your thing. I will say, again, this is a city favorite and a place with plenty of seating if you wanna take the family.
Burger Nerds – crazy that this is number four when it’s such a fine burger. Just a testament to how delicious all these are. The nerd sauce (not sure if I’m hallucinating or that’s what it’s called) was great but I can’t use my favorite gastronome adjective (I.e., “flavorful”) here, as it was slightly less flavor-packed as the others. Nevertheless, a great burger. We like to pick em up and head to the fly to watch the sunset.
HONORABLE MENTION: Atomic Burger in Metairie (not pictured). Honorable mention because Metairie is, of course, Metairie and not New Orleans, but it is honorary New Orleans. Also, Atomic Burger is presumably a chain, though I only know of this one. It’s a drive-thru to rival all drive-thrus. Could eat fifty, have a transient ischemic attack, and eat twenty-five more. Bonus: they have a ton of sauces to add to the burger and/or fries.
If any New Orleans folks have other recs, do holler, but please don’t say Port of Call.

Been a long while since I lived in the city, but I always thought Ted’s Frostop did a solid burger.
How do you rate the burger at turkey and the wolf?
I was really hoping the dog would be in every picture.
Needs more dog in the background
