February 4, 2025 – On 3 February 2025, Star Wine List of the Year celebrated Spain’s best wine lists with an awards ceremony held during Barcelona Wine Week. The Grand Prix was won by Ambivium restaurant in Peñafiel, Castilla y León, after scooping the prize for Best Long List. A total of nine Gold Stars were awarded to eight deserving restaurants and bars spread across the country, with joint winners in the Best Short List category.

“It is impressive to find such a big wine-producing country with so many interesting lists going beyond Spanish wines,” says judge Paz Levinson, who was joined on the panel by Ferran Centelles, Kathrine Larsen-Robert MS and Raimonds Tomsons. “This competition has shown us that Spain has a strong sommelier community with lots of passion and dedication. We [as judges] are incredibly impressed by the quality and quantity of the wine lists, which show so much knowledge, and precise selections. From wine lists focusing on Spanish wines only, to those more open to wines from other countries, these entries prove that Spain is a great place to eat and drink and that, in the past few years, the standards have got higher and higher.”
Star Wine List of the Year is a celebration of the great wine lists of the world and the teams behind them. Each category winner receives a Gold Star, with those in the international categories automatically qualifying for the Star Wine List International Final, to be held in June 2025. The event was attended by the shortlisted sommelier teams, local press, and supported by category sponsors Austrian Wine, Familia Torres and Bodega Numanthia.
