A mother-son picnic turned into a panic after an unleashed dog approached them during their leisurely park outing.
The mom, who is still “so angry” about the incident, chronicled the moment on the community forum Mumsnet, where she explained that a stranger’s pet ate the picnic food that her young son had prepared for them.
“A random dog appeared out of nowhere and ran over to us,” she wrote. “I stood up and picked up my child and ran in a panic and stood behind a tree with no idea where the owner was at this point.”
“We watched the dog eating our food and also drooling all over our lunch box,” the concerned mom continued. “The owner suddenly appeared from a path that led into the park, screaming at her dog to ‘get here now.‘ ”
The mom recalled the dog “totally” ignoring the owner.

“She had to grab it and literally drag it away and put the lead on it. She apologized, but when I asked her if she was going to pay for our food she had the gall to say, ‘You should have picked it up when you saw him coming,’ ” said the mom, who wrote her post 45 minutes after the incident.
“I am still fuming. She did not pay for our food and despite initially apologizing, was incredibly arsey and walked off in the opposite direction,” she added. “My child is very upset and the worst bit is, he has [Special Educational Needs] and made everything in the lunch box.”
The lunch included sandwiches, grapes, cut-up apples and chocolate.
Like herself, the mom said her son is “really upset” about the incident.
“I am also on a low income and spent a lot on the food,” she continued. “I took a photo of her and it clearly has her face in it. … I am not going to name and shame, but I’m just so angry.”

The mom’s post attracted more than 700 responses, with the majority of people reassuring her that she and her son had every right to be mad.
“Dog owners very rarely understand the real fear that some others have of dogs,” one reader replied. “To her it would probably seem daft to leave food on the floor in front of a dog, whereas the absolute right expectation is for dogs to be under control in public places.”
Other Mumsnet users addressed what the stranger’s dog consumed.
“Well, there may be some very bad karma coming her way as both chocolate and grapes are poisonous to dogs,” one person wrote, while another commented, “If the dog ate grapes, then RIP dog.”
