Have you guys seen these new “easy peel” topped tins? Thoughts?
I assumed this was due to metal tariffs bc KO is distributed from the USA but I didn't really look into it. I just hope it keeps the prices down and quality up.

IIRC this is a little nice, but…they can leak more easily

It’s a more malleable top? Seems dangerous

I thought it was the other way around. From my personal experience, the mackerels I got used to be the foil peel type up until about a year ago, my recent orders have all been pull tabs.
I miss the peel off lid, much easier to open.

the peel off lid is a result of the changing demographic, older people are more into tinned fish than any other group (ourselves excluded) this makes it easier for them to be able to access the contents. I don’t mind it to much, it will make it easier to find the bad tins since the top will swell up easier.

I have never had a problem with these, but I only stack about 8 high, and I don’t leave them alone for more than a few months.

I have not seen those here in Norway, and I would not buy them. Botulism scares the shit out of me, to the point that I bin a “dodgy” tin a month on average (yes, I know it is overkill), and this? I would just not trust it at all.

I prefer this over the plastic

I freaking love the king Oscar lemon salmon. So good. Not a fan of the tops on them though.

Are the king Oscar’s superior yo the wild planet. I like skin and bones of the wild planet but would like a little more added spices or something extra on them. I tried the seasons filets and did not enjoy as much as the wild planet.

Ok this is new. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this in the UK and it’s definitely not something I’ve encountered at my work
What’s the shelf life on them compared to normal?
It’s usual an easy open ring pull lid will have a year knocked off the BBE as the can will have the thinner part where the lid is removed by the consumer, so there’s more risk of ingress compared to the can opener only tins
This is the next level entirely. I’d be so concerned about damage… I’m sure the manufacturers have tested it, but unless they can guarantee no droppage it seems like a risk

I like King Oscar. Would not like this packaging. Feels like my cat can claw it open. Or a mouse. I don’t keep them very long, I like fish too much.

No thanks. Give me metal or give me death (by food poisoning).

Yeah, I don’t like that.

I don’t like them. I’ll assume its cheaper to make and it does reduce chances of cutting yourself on the metal lid, but I like to pack tins for picnics and such and these are very easy to puncture.

I think they used to use something similar a while ago. I am not into it, I prefer a regular lid.
Square_Ad849
I’ll have to try these.

What’s going to happen to the Ronald McDonald house now?
Ronald McDonald houses are places in the USA where parents of children with cancer can stay when they travel for treatments. A lot of well wishers save ring pulls from soda cans and, yep, sardine cans, trading them in to recycling to make $ for the RMDH
Backsight-Foreskin
I can remember when they came with a key stuck to the top.
