Italian cuisine is appreciated all over the world: it represents one of the excellences of our country, thanks to the recipes that have made gastronomic history and the excellent raw materials. 

Abroad, however, true “food crimes”: bad habits in the kitchen that should be avoided.

A YouGov conducted research related to “food crimes” committed against the Italian culinary in the rest of the world. 

After compiling a list of ways in which foreigners abuse the food Italian, YouGov asked people from 17 different countries, including Italy, which were acceptable and which were not.

According to research, there are four bad habits that Italians, however, tend to have: eating pizza for lunch, pairing bolognese sauce with spaghetti, using a fork and not their hands to eat pizza and putting meatballs in spaghetti. 

Other habits, however, are not tolerable: here is the ranking of most serious “food crimes”, according to Italians:

Eating garlic bread with pasta

According to the Italians, the ranking of the most serious “food crimes” opens with the bad habit of eat garlic bread with pasta, placed in eleventh place.

Do not add salt to boiling pasta water

Several “food crimes” concern the preparation of pasta: in tenth place is the bad habit of do not add salt to boiling water to cook the paste.

Drink cappuccino after meals

In ninth position in the ranking we find the cappuccino after meals: a habit of many foreigners who come to Italy to visit. It is not difficult to see a foreigner who, after having eaten, asks the waiter for a cappuccino: something that should not be done.

Put the cheese on the pasta with the fish

Moving up the ranking, in eighth place we find cool the cooked pasta by placing it under cold water and seventh place the cheese on the dough with the fish, a true crime: the grated parmesan does not go well with fish-based batter.

Add cream to the carbonara

Carbonara is a true myth of our kitchen and it is no coincidence that it was included in the ranking of regional dishes most popular in Italy and the world The recipe is very simple but equally rigorous, you don’t need to change any steps. One of the least tolerated bad habits of Italians is put cream in the carbonara: This is how a legendary dish is ruined.

Cut the long dough with a knife

Another habit included in the YouGov ranking, precisely in fifth place, is cut long pasta with knife: Long pasta should only be eaten by rolling it with a fork.

Use pasta as a side dish

There are still masses in fourth place in the ranking: specifically the bad habit of use pasta as a side dish, pleasing to many foreigners. There’s nothing wrong with it anymore: pasta is a first course and should always be eaten as such – alone!

Using pineapple as a pizza topping

Among the most popular Italian pizzas there are different flavors, but there is no place for pineapple consumed in many countries around the world. In that regard, use pineapple as a pizza topping It is in third place in the ranking of the most serious “food crimes”.

Place the pasta in cold water and then boil

In second position in the ranking we find “put the pasta in cold water and then boil it“. Preparing the pasta is not that difficult: first boil the water and then throw the pasta to cook.

Add ketchup to the dough

Of all the “food crimes” against our cuisine, the one Italians hate most is put ketchup on the dough which occupies the first position in this special ranking.
