Everyone goes on and on about wagyu, but the pork in Japan is top notch as well. Kagoshima Kurobuta pork for shabu shabu is some of the best!

In the summer family members send food to other family as treats. This was one of the summer food gifts we received this year. Kurobuta or black pig is very popular and makes a great summer shabu shabu dinner.

In a few weeks though it will be all about the wagyu as my sister in law is bringing Miyazaki wagyu, which is the current top prefecture for wagyu, when she visits us for the obon holiday.

    Kurobuta seems a bit harder to come by, there’s not as well recognized a grading scheme etc.

    I personally find it a bit hard to find at times. At least when I’m not in Kyushu.
