Sungolds might be my favorite, love the bright juicy flavor and crazy vigor

Lol. I learned that this year. I only had one and it produced so many tomatoes. Glad I did not plant more.

They sure are productive! Love it!

Keep in mind that itβs *barely* late July. If youβre zone 8B or higher, you. Just. Wait.
For me in 9B central southern CA, October is when everyone hates me. My coworkers avoid me, relatives stop visiting, my neighbors hide from me, and my friends give them to their friends. I kid yet not, per DAY Iβm picking 2+ pounds from ONE PLANT.
Dull-Fisherman2033
First time gardener and I have 13 plants. Just had to top them all because they’ve outgrown the stakes and I’m already at like 400 tomatoes if they all mature. The neighbours are going to have some tasty tomatoes cause I can’t eat all of those haha
XingTheRubicon1984
I planted 3 then propagated a 4th. I may need to give it away (in a container.).

I also am growing 1 Sungold this year and decided to go single stem. Not as productive as yours for sure, just thin. How many stems did you allow or just not prune at all?

Thatβs what I thought and then my only sungold got wilt π’
Me too. I spend a lot of time picking them. But Iβm always afraid If I have only one it wonβt make it.
LowLongRU
I planted 24 cherry tomatoes. (Sun Gold, Repunzel, gardeners delight, super sweet, sweeties, etc.) All indeterminate so I should get a ton of produce barring a meteor strike. I love to eat like popcorn, add to salads, make tomato basil, pasta sauce, freeze for winter. When I have enough stored, give to friends, family and neighbors. I did dehydrate one year, meh.

You need 4.

Ha I learned this lesson the hard way too! Currently learning it about cucumbers, turns out you donβt need 8 plants π€¦π»ββοΈ but of course I had to transplant every seedling lol
thuglifecarlo
I try to single stem but it ends up being 10+ leaders at the end. They dont fruit well here so they rarely make it to the kitchen. I do sunsugar, sungold, lemon drop (close taste but a little more sour and smaller), and citrine because I love the flavor of sungolds.

I accidentally planted like 8 cherry tomato plants this year. I mislabeled and then forgot which ones were which and threw a hail Mary. And now since we have gotten like 6″ of rain this past two weeks all of them are splitting, which will lead to volunteers next year. ….
beemer-dreamer
I only planted one and have already harvested about 12 tomatoes from it. 30 plants in all. Planted in 5 gallon buckets.

I planted too many myself and will repeat again next year because they taste so awesome!

You guys, I have a volunteer this year growing where last year I had planted Sungold next to Gold Nugget (more compact but HIGHLY productive)…it is SPRAWLING and loaded with tomatoes. It’s an absolute mess π€£π€£π

I am moving towards more small tomatoes and less large varieties. My cherries are pumping out while the others are struggling
LilacFairie
Agreed! I discovered 4 was a bit much although Iβm not complaining because they will be amazing in my pasta sauces this winter.

Never enough Sungold

Sungolds are SO prolific. Itβs wild

Roasted unfold tomatoes sounds amazing- thinking about them sliced and diced on that baking sheet.
SnooOnions9060
I know—“they” say plant multiples in case… As I was looking at my cherry tomato plant(s) I was thinking—I love tomatoes but how much can we eat??? lol
Joey_Hicks1120
I have 14 tomato plants 2 are 1 million super sweet. This weekend I gave away 15lbs of tomatoes. I just picked another 15 lbs tonight. I didnβt even pick any of the cherry tomatoes. Iβve got volunteer grape tomatoes from last year. I can imagine how many supper sweet Iβll have next year.

Yea, thatβs my note as well. After tasting several different famous types, sun gold is really my favorite. Itβs full of flavor and so prolific.

Ha ha. We tell ourselves every year to cut back on the cherry tomato plants, but yet every year we plant 4 or 5. π€¦ββοΈ
