Hilton. N.Y. — A local couple celebrated National Ice Cream Day with a sweet sundae on Sunday.

Since 1964, Dick and Betty have been visiting the Hilton McDonald’s to enjoy a delicious hot fudge sundae.

The tradition spanning six decades has captured the hearts of the staff at the location and many in the surrounding community.

“It’s such a simple act, every day a person that you love just taking them out for an ice cream hot fudge sundae,” said Rod Miller, the owner of the Hilton McDonald’s. “Things like that just don’t happen in this world that we’re in today, so they were a little overwhelmed, just their normal routine that they’ve been doing for so long, so many people were interested in it.”

As a token of appreciation for their dedicated Sunday “sundae” outing, the couple’s local McDonald’s location is offering them complimentary sundaes for life, a small gesture for these two loyal customers.
