Just curious if anyone genuinely loves this place? The portions are ridiculous. This is $34 plus tip. Looks like you can pay extra for toppings (that are typically included) they then squeeze in these so you barely get any dispute paying extra. Barely any sauce added and no options for sauce on the side. I usually don’t rant about shrinkflation and just move on when I have a bad meal, but this one left me irked and cooking potstickers for dinner.

WOW Poke is my new obsession. Give em a try!

  2. durrettd

Poke House where you pay for protein and everything else is included. Massive amount of food with three generous scoops of protein for $20.

Granted got food poisoning once, but that’s going weekly for four years. It’s a risk I’ve accepted.

  3. HyalineAquarium

same experience & the food was forgettable. it’s bad in the downtown area for poke so I’m back to Koriente (for something similar) like the classic its always been. really thankful they can hold it down for so long. & the portions are good too, sometimes have to take some home.

I enjoy poke-poke and believe it’s really the rice that’s too small rather than the protein. I typically add a side of rice when I eat it there too and find it worth while. I also find the portion size to be a bit larger eating there.

A lot of y’all probably haven’t tried Epic Poke because of the weird location, and that’s a cryin’ shame.

  6. PositiveTexan

It’s the best authentic poke in town. If you like the style of poke drenched in sauce with extra side of sauce, which is a different kind of yummy, there’s other places.

  7. Equivalent-Shoe6239

It is the only poke option by my house (I live in Shady Hollow). When I lived on the Eastside, I would get Pokeworks all the time and I always had more than enough to eat. I wish Pokeworks would open in Southpark or Sunset Valley

  8. StxtoAustin

Honestly I think it’s the best poke in Austin in terms of flavor, quality of fish and authenticity of what I would get in Hawaii…

Sometimes I just want a lot of protein though and I go to other spots.

I was just there a few weeks ago and paid like $16 for a massive portion. It was delicious. Not sure what happened with your order.

  10. Jazzlike_Ad_5991

By far the best Poke place in Austin. The only one that tastes like HI to me.

  11. milli_138

I like it but learned to get the Big OG with no rice so you get a full pound of poke. Then add a large side of rice if you really want rice. This is cheaper than your total. I tend to eat mine with just seaweed chips I keep in the house but I always get it to go. It’s awesome for two or you can have lots of leftovers for the next day.

  12. whatsabussy

poke poke is so good, portions are smaller but damn i will always return if they keep their quality and seasoning the same

  13. madmak26

The location on Hancock is so wildly inconsistent

  14. mentirosa_atx

I love the location on Hancock! But I go to WowPoke because it’s close by work, they are generous with rice and toppings there (though I feel like they skimp on the actual protein part).

  15. NotoriousHEB

I can’t speak to how it compares to poke in Hawaii but it’s my somewhat reluctantly preferred spot for flavor reasons and also because they have a sense of what hot/spicy means that lines up with mine (pretty hot, but not gimmick hot). Though it is a little toned down from what it used to be, or my tolerance keeps going up. No issues with the sauce quantity in my opinion, seems well balanced with the fish to me

I also don’t mind portions that aren’t an entire days worth of food, but yes, i wouldn’t try to convince anyone it’s a bargain

  16. oat_latte

I love poke poke. East location is my fav, sitting outside and getting an açaí bowl after from Juiceland is a move. Hot tip the full size rice and avocado bowl for $5 is a nice add on if you’re still hungry.

  17. EatMoreSleepMore

Quality tuna costs money. If you don’t care about quality and just want run of the mill ladles of overly sweet mediocre tuna then go elsewhere.

“No option for sauce on the side” 🙄

  18. Improvcommodore

Easily the best poke in town and worth the money. I’ve gotten a big order of the half salmon/half tuna yowza yuzu during happy hour and it was under $20

  19. alextbrown4

I personally love poke poke. Their quality of fish is great and it’s not so ridiculously expensive if you actually get it in person. Spicy tuna is great

  20. Key_Virus_6840

Because it’s the best people pay for quality people enjoy quality that’s how they’re still in business. All those other places are straight mayonnaise. Poke poke wins again

  21. QuietRedditorATX

    **Why tip on takeout.**

    (I mean why tip big)

  22. PassProtect15

poke poke is the best poke in town. they’re the only ones that do real Hawaiian style here.

  23. Shoddy_Ad7511

Amateur move. Why are you getting rice? Just get fish

  24. w4nd3rlu5t

oh wow I loved poke poke but havent been able to go in awhile. interested to see others’ chat here about other places.

I did get Costco poke the other day as a treat and I really liked it, it wasn’t spicy like my regular order but I thought the quality was really good and you get a LOT for $20. would have to get rice separately though.

  25. raycantu2

I love Poke and this is consistently the most flavorful and most fresh tasting. I’m sorry that happened to you, I would still encourage you to give them another shot

  26. I LOOOOOOVE Nancy’s Skygarden near Lakeline. Little bit of a drive for me but worth it every time

  27. trica1128

Im surprised no one has mentioned Poke Austin, that place is so good and they also have boba!

  28. It there is one item to not skimp on quality, its probably ocean seafood in the middle of Texas. Just to frame it.

Why even get all those extra sides anyways? I can’t understand why people ruin poke by putting it into a poke bowl. You just bland out the taste. It is like Californian’s and their pizza adding everything and the kitchen sink to it. Sometimes simple is better, especially for poke. I mean poke bowls were only invented in the 70s for white tourists anyways. The best poke is in the grocery stores, always.

    I’ll just leave this here:
    >As Chef Mark Noguchi says, “Adding pineapple to poke is like putting ketchup on sushi—it’s cultural slander”.

  29. dunuthin

I like it and the value is there compared to sushi.

  30. Key_Virus_6840

Poke Poke is real hawain style. If you like cream cheese in your sushi rolls then go to other places . If you like TUNA go to poke poke

  31. BrownWallyBoot

1 Pound of poke is $15 at central market

  32. Squidsoda

True, most authentic Hawaiian grinds right here. Other places in Austin don’t come close to HI style.

  33. skateasseatfast

This spot is my favourite poke spot ever, actually serves hawaiin style poke (mostly fish and rice) instead of the chipotle bowl style poke. Its expensive but you get a fuck ton of fish especially compared to the average poke place where your bowl is mostly rice and toppings.

  34. I wish Pokeeatery at Mueller still existed. It wasn’t the best quality or anything, but wow were their portions insane. Sometimes I felt like I got a full pound of fish or even more in just their regular $11 box. I think the employee turnover was high and since they make all the orders from printed tickets, they would mistake you selecting three proteins as one full serving as each instead of splitting the one portion by three different fish.

  35. autumnlequinox

Poke poke is by far my fave, the fish is the most consistently fresh ive found and I prefer the lighter sauces they use, I find a lot of the other shops sauces cloying. Plus by the pound option is a hell of a deal, but in general the bigger sizes are always a better deal. Generally double the fish for less than double the price.

  36. atmaninthemaya

so you ordered it on an app? of course you’ll get ripped off. go there in person you whiny rich guy

  37. roadrunnerbutterfly

I went on Wednesday and was shocked at the price for two. Did they up their prices recently? I go semi-often but had a little sticker shock this time. Definitely most authentic I’ve had in Austin!
