The G7 Summit at Borgo Egnazia will also give the Leaders and international delegations an opportunity to savour Italian food and wine, with two meals prepared by Chef Massimo Bottura taking them on a real tour around Italy. Massimo Bottura is a top Italian chef and has been awarded seven Michelin Stars, including the Green Star and three ‘Golden Keys’.

The G7 menu takes its inspiration from Italy’s many regions, representing all the rich culture and biodiversity the country has to offer.
With his extraordinary, innovative imagination, Chef Bottura has interpreted traditional recipes and ingredients while always fully respecting the raw materials.

“Raw materials simply have to play the starring role: the aim of our cuisine – explains Chef Bottura – is to shine the spotlight on the heroic work of farmers, fishers and producers, not to satisfy chefs’ egos”.

Another feature of the G7 lunches is that they both highlight the pleasure of sitting around a table with others, with this being the perfect setting to talk and discuss. In this regard, a number of key elements of Italian tradition will be reflected in the menus, including Sunday lunch with the family. The menus therefore focus on conveying both emotions and values such as beauty, by presenting the characteristic colours of Italy’s stunning landscapes.

“I wish to thank Chef Bottura for accepting our invitation, and for using his art to promote Italian food and wine. We invited him not only because he is one of the world’s most famous ambassadors of Italian cuisine, but also because of his ability to combine aesthetics and ethics”, stated the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni.

Chef Bottura is in fact committed to combating food waste and to solidarity and inclusion initiatives for the less fortunate, leading the ‘Tortellante’ project which involves young people with genetic disorders and the elderly coming together to make tortellini.

The lunch courses will be accompanied by some of the best wines that make Italy the world’s top producer, all selected by Riccardo Cotarella, co-president of the Union Internationale des Oenologues.
