If you’re anything like us, these cold winter days have probably got you dreaming about a summer spent coasting around the Mediterranean. If you’ve been looking for a slice of summer to beat the winter blues, we’ve found just the thing, and it involves all the things we love – great wine, honest food, and a table full of friends.

This August, Langhorne Creek is running their much-loved Cellar Treasures festival. The festival is giving the region a platform to serve up the very best of their local producers, but there’s one very special event that is promising to bring the sun-soaked flavours of the Mediterranean straight to South Australia for just one night only.

On Saturday, August 9th, Langhorne Creek is teaming up with the crew behind Olive Restaurant to host a deliciously immersive food and wine experience at Sprout Cooking School. The event will be hosted by wine personality and proud Mediterranean enthusiast Katie Spain, and it’s definitely going to be a highlight on the winter events calendar.

Across the evening, you’ll be guided through a shared four-course feast that’ll be prepared and cooked right before your eyes by none other than Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis. You’ll watch as the Sprout founders bring dishes from Olive’s Mediterranean-inspired menu to life. These will include totally rustic, produce-driven plates that put South Australian ingredients centre stage, while capturing the essence of the Mediterranean just perfectly.

Alongside each course, you’ll explore eight exciting Mediterranean wine varieties that are not just being imported, but have been grown successfully in Langhorne Creek itself. These are the bold, climate-friendly varieties shaping the future of Australian wine, and they’ll be shared by the people who know them best, the winemakers.

Discover whites like crisp Pecorino and textured Fiano, and fall in love with reds like Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano, and other wines the makers deem perfectly suited to the dinner. It’s a rare chance to learn how and why these grapes thrive in Langhorne Creek’s climate, and why they’re becoming increasingly important to the region and beyond.

The dinner will be laid-back and communal, with a long table vibe filled with a shared love of good food and wine. Seasonal fruit, vegetables, condiments and flowers will feature throughout the menu and the space, giving a nod to Langhorne Creek’s rich farming history and great produce scene. There’ll also be giveaways and prize draws, including the chance to win a weekend away in Langhorne Creek, one of the more under-the-radar wine regions in the state.

Olive Me, Olive You: From Langhorne Creek to the Mediterranean is proudly supported by the South Australian Government through the Department of Primary Industries and Regions, and for lovers of food, wine, and all things Euro summer, this event is as close to the Mediterranean as you’ll get without a passport. Seats are limited, so book early and prepare to raise a glass to Langhorne Creek.
