As we look ahead today kicks off the Grecian festival at Saint Paul Greek Orthodox Church in North Royalton. The event is open to anyone, and you can get the feels of being on the Mediterranean coast right here in Northeast Ohio. Our David Greenberg is live there this morning, and David, it’s been a lot of fun watching you today. Thank you so much Tanita. It has been a lot of fun here. All right, we’re talking about traditional, well, Greek tradition and of course food, a big part of that. I want to bring in John. John, — we’ve got some saganaki
— prepared. Say prepared. It’s a, it’s a lightly breaded Greek cheese that we fry up and uh. We serve it with a little bit of brandy, huh, and we light it on fire. Ready? Everyone at home say it and then we hit it with a little lemon juice. There it is, we serve that with some pita bread and it is an absolute delicacy. Look at that. Yep. How about that? Awesome fried some fried cheese. You cannot go wrong there. Uh, first off, John, thank you so much for having. Thanks for coming, you guys. It’s a pleasure. This is one of our favorites every single year you guys do it upright. Just take a look at the spread. — Talk about the preparations that go into putting on
— this event. Yeah, this event, it really takes an army of people to pull this event off from setting up the tables to to setting up and and working on the pastries, uh, early on to prepping all the food that you see here from the lamb shanks to the stuffed grape leaves to the Athenian chicken. Um, and then of course some traditional items like the pastitzo, which is a pasta dish in the moussaka, which is a. Eggplant and all the fixings, the beans, the potatoes, the rice, the best beans in the world, and then of course the gro, — of
— course the the the the favorite among so many, the well known favorite. This is, you know, we, we sell that outside in a tent. We have a live band that’s gonna be here, um, — and this is our biggest seller
— talk about just Greek culture a little bit and the community that you guys have because it feels like it’s. Such a tight knit community. It is Saint Paul’s is an amazing community. We have so many different, uh, uh, people from different parts of Greece and, uh, myself, I’m from the island of Crete, but other people are from different islands and we all come together and to support this church and to support this edifice. This is our major fundraiser for our church for, uh, you know, every year and so it’s a, it’s a big deal for us so we greatly appreciate your, you know, you guys coming out and supporting us and uh. And come out and get some good Greek food and have a little bit of Greek spirits out there in the tent and do some dancing, right? Do some dancing, see some dancing if you don’t wanna do some dancing, but you gotta try some food. All right, do you mind? Can we, can we let’s fill it up here? We’re gonna try some of this delicious stuff. All right, we get. I got this is my favorite. This is your favorite. Give me a little slip. Oh, that’s a, oh boy, that’s. Going down down down that one got away from me. — Just look
— at this. All right, so walk, — walk me through what is
— this. OK, so this is pastito. It’s it’s a pasta layered pasta, meat sauce, sauteed meat sauce, and then pasta and then a cream sauce on top of it. And uh, it, it’s, it’s kind of like a lasagna a little very close to the lasagna, yep, except it’s made with cream sauce. Big bites, big bites. Oh my gosh. It is one of the best. I will say of the things I’ve tried this morning. — Which one is
— it so much it’s the flavors and the different spices that you guys use that make the dishes. Yeah, yeah, it’s there’s all kinds of different spices in each one of the dishes. So this one I think you’re probably tasting a little cinnamon and some cumin maybe, um, but yeah, other dishes are different, you know, like, like the potatoes are, are olive oil and lemon juice, like Greek cooked lemons. Who doesn’t love a little you saw the fried cheese. We’re giving you a full performance out here, so, uh, Danita. I’m gonna send it back to you and um I’m gonna continue to stuff my face as I as I do best. You you do that so look at you there you go. I mean. Thank you for that. Thank you for just tearing it up tearing it up. There you go. Alright, check back in with you later, Greenberg. Food looks great and I know you’re loving eating all of it.
