If you have to ask “Do i need more?” you do need more.

At least a pound of onion per patty is my key, yes my breath is ugly like Spongebobs

More, it’s like when clients tell me how much they think it will cost, the answer is always double it and add 20%

UK calling, what’s a patty melt?

When I make carmelized onions, I just do an enormous batch. I’ll take like an entire 10 lb nag of onions and carmelixed them at once then just portion them into sandwhich baggies into the freezer. I don’t care if they get soft and a little mushy when they thaw I’m here for that sweet onioney flavor

Plenty. Unless you like shitloads of onion on it

Another Brit here, what’s a patty melt? I’m guessing a burger of some sort?

In about 2 hours, that amount gonna fit on the end of a toothpick. Make extra. Worst case scenario, you have left over caramelized onions for an onion/cheese omlete for breakfast.

If you caramelize it properly, that will make enough caramelized onions to take care of 1/4th of one sandwich.
Double down. Maybe triple down just to be on the safe side. 75% onion to 25% meat patty should be enough. Carmelized onion and beef patty.
EasyDriver_RM
I would need more for carmelizing, but that much might do for a quick saute with a dash of Worcestershire sauce and a little garlic powder.

Rookie mistake. Asking this of all subs if you have enough onions. You could fill abathtub and we would say you needed more.
beth_at_home
There are NEVER enough caramelized onions.
someolive2
caramelize like at least 2 whole onion. 3 or 4 is best
Professional_King790
That depends on if you want onions on the patty melts or not.

That’s going to cool down to nothing

If you’re going to the trouble of caramelizing onions, you might as well do more. It’s time intensive enough that it makes sense to do a large batch and freeze/refrigerate whatever you don’t need (or eat the rest tomorrow as a meal of just onions)

They really shrink up, I cut enough to fill my large skillet to the top when I’m caramelizing for 2 😂 🧅 ♥️
