My local store had New York strip steak on sale so I thought “why not?” Marinaded overnight with the standard Japanese seasonings (shoyu, sake, mirin, sugar, ginger) and really happy with the texture and flavor, so so on getting that perfect medium rare look. Great over rice with sesame and scallion (not pictured) and a side salad.

The total cook time is about 6 minutes so it’s a nice weeknight meal. Spend 15 minutes prepping and marinating the night before, then take it out 30 minutes before cooking, and you can use that time to get the rice going and prepare the sides. Let it rest for 5 minutes, and dinners’s ready in under 45 minutes from start to finish.

That’s a juicy bowl of comfort. The sesame on top is the perfect touch.

I know what you meant, but I saw the title while quickly scrolling by and suddenly had an image of a steak that tastes like a Japanese person…

You could also consider the marinade as a dipping sauce instead, that would more closely match how steak is served in Japan, and would help you get a crustier sear

Or you could just enjoy your food as well, great job
