The news comes amid reports that Cote Brasserie owners Partners Group are seeking new investors – with the less profitable of their 70 plus restaurants said to be at risk of closure.

This week the chain shut its bistro in Muswell Hill Broadway, where favourite menu items included French onion soup, steak frites, tuna Nicoise and croque monsieur.

A note on the restaurant’s website reads: “Sadly, we’ve now closed the doors to our Côte Muswell Hill restaurant.

“With many other Côte restaurants in and around the London area, this isn’t really goodbye – instead à bientôt.”

Reaction to the news on the Muswell Hill Residents’ Association Instagram page was swift: “I’m so gutted. Lots of happy memories from there!” Wrote one.

While another posted: “Great shame! One of the only decent restaurants in Muzzy!”

There was also speculation over what would take over the large site on the Broadway.

A spokeperson said: “We are committed to a three-year investment programme to update our restaurants and create spaces that are modern, welcoming, and that truly reflect the French art of bringing people together around a table.

“To date, we have refurbished eight restaurants, and we’re delighted that these have been so well received by our guests. Building on this momentum, we’re continuing to make carefully considered decisions across our estate to support the long-term success of the brand.

“Since February 2025, we have been in legal discussions to assign the lease to another operator, and this process is ongoing. While this is not a decision we have taken lightly, it reflects our commitment to ensuring every Côte location is positioned for future growth and sustainability.

“We would like to sincerely thank our Muswell Hill team for their hard work and dedication, and our guests for their continued support over the years.”

Fans of Cote’s food can still get their fill at Barbican, Marylebone and St Christopher’s Place among other locations across London.
