you’ve probably eaten flatbread before but have you ever had the bread that built an Empire aish balotti isn’t just food it’s survival and the way it’s made you won’t believe it in Egypt a balotti literally means life bred and for thousands of years it’s been a staple dating back to the Pharaohs but here’s the twist unlike modern bread it’s made with whole wheat no preservatives and baked in scorching hot stone ovens just like it was in ancient times during ancient Egypt workers were even paid an a balot instead of money that’s right bread was currency well in 2008 a weak crisis nearly caused riots across Egypt because without aish baladi millions of people couldn’t afford to eat it’s not just food it’s survival so next time you eat flatbread remember some bread is more than just bread

  1. "Aish balady" means "Bread of the country"
While "Aish" is the Egyptian way of Arabic to say "Khobz", the litral translation from "Aish" is "Living"
So "Aish balady" litrally means "The living of the country"
