Had been thinking for a long while, over 10 years to get one. Had a Masterbuilt which I regretted but now I’ve done it!
Had a nice bbq just. Gonna be here and learning from you all. Thank you!

Nice! Is that the Big Joe II? That’s what i have, absolutely love it. Did 5kg of pulled pork with my 12 yr old son on Friday. Such a versatile cooker. Spatchcock chicken at 375f is my favourite.
My first tip would be to remove the cast iron grate at the very bottom and get a charcoal basket for improved air flow abd easier clean up. But i cooked on mine for ages before doing that.

Looks brand new.
Mom used to tell me to never praise the bride before wedding night.

That’s awesome! I used to have a Big Green Egg and loved that thing, but we had to get rid of it when we moved to Europe. When we returned to the States I decided to try a Masterbuilt and I immediately regretted it. It burned through WAAAAY more charcoal than my BGE. I felt like the electronics were going to fail at any minute. It was a pain-in-the-ass to clean, after a few months (with a cover) I was already seeing some rust. And the final straw was that I had a massive grease fire that I couldn’t put out.
I gave that grill to my nephew and bought a Kamado Joe. Not only is it superior (for ME) to the Masterbuilt, it pretty much fixed all my small issues with my old BGE! Here’s what I love:
– It is based on 3,000 year old Chinese cooking techniques (I love stuff like that!)
– As long as it doesn’t tip over it will last forever
– There are no electronics to break down (at the worst moment)
– It can grill, sear, bake, smoke and more!
– It self cleans (like an oven)
– It’s extremely efficient with charcoal (I can cook a whole brisket for 15 hours with one load of coals)
My recommendations:
1. As another person suggested, get one of the charcoal baskets when you can
2. I prefer to light my coals with a propane torch gun (it’s like using a flamethrower!)

Enjoy!! Savor how pristine it looks now. It’s the one of the few large purchases I made that my wife has no problem with lol!
